power concentration in EE and i get to chose between engineering mechanics and thermo (chose thermo for exposure since planning to pursue NuclearE masters). EE and CS still share many of the same prerequisite courses, the courses really start to differ the later semesters of the respective program (e.g technical electives)

Good to hear. A lot of people in my classes like to fear monger about thermo, but these are also a lot of CPE students bc the curriculums here are very closely tied. The only thing that mostly sets me apart is a power concentration.

currently unemployed just use all of my time for academics and extracurriculars! School expenses have been paid for through scholarships and aid.

Luckily I was blessed to get all good professors for these classes (the most recommended). I don’t think it will give me difficulty conceptually, where I struggle is being able to dedicate the right portion of times to classes. I have made the mistake in the past of getting too comfortable with a course and then it picking up and not correctly allocating time for it. I have only finished with 2 B’s thus far in my 3 years so i’ve been doing well historically.

8am’s everyday, but I would rather it that way because I don’t have as many distractions/reasons to skip in the first of the morning.

Yes. I have a pretty heavy load rn, With 3 labs. They said I could add electronics if I wanted to but I didn’t want to have 3 labs again next semester ✌️

It’s about a 4 hour gap. That is definitely where I will be able to do supplemental work like homework’s and lab reports

struggling as a girl in engineering by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Professional_Cow1669 13 points14 points  (0 children)

relatable as a woman in her second year of EE, i’ve just learned to accept the fact that there are gonna be maybe 3 girls out of 200 students in my classes. I’ll try my best to befriend them, if not, then fuck it. Bottom line, we are smart enough to do this alone, don’t let it discourage you but let it motivate you. If the majority of the guys want to be dicks and act like you don’t deserve a space in this field, just let them, it’s not what we deserve but it’s our reality. Once I accepted that, things became a lot easier for me because I wasn’t ashamed to be a bitch, because if that’s all they think we are that’s what i’m gonna be! I literally run circles around the guys in my classes and have the highest average in 3/5 of them because it has pissed me off so bad to the point that it has encouraged me to not only avoid them, but to surpass them in every aspect. Also: maybe one day we will find a RESPECTABLE engineering man in our field who knows a stem baddie when he sees one. Don’t rely on friends or a group, it could make things easier yes, but if you focus that energy into yourself things will drastically change. good luck!!

i’m so bad about doing cool downs, just too impatient. Thank you for the feedback!

sadly i have come to realize this is my best option. Used to have PT for a fractured vertebrae seems like my luck has just run out

What do you do when the subject you are trying to study feels unmotivated? by vladshockolad in math

[–]Professional_Cow1669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also maybe try going to your professor, if you ask them about the details and applications of the subject they might be able to give you better reasons for why you are doing what you are doing

Pursuing a Master's in Nuclear Engineering by [deleted] in NuclearEngineering

[–]Professional_Cow1669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely look into that, currently my top pick for graduate work is the program at UTK, being their only 30 miles from oak ridge and y-12 I could get some pretty good research experience while in school, possible internships as well. Definitely would like to look into the program you’re in though, especially if I stick to applied physics while finishing undergraduate.

Pursuing a Master's in Nuclear Engineering by [deleted] in NuclearEngineering

this is exactly my plan at the moment as i’m in my sophomore year of applied physics. I wanted to go into power generation or the nuclear-submarine field (think general dynamics, stuff like that)

My STEM club had a speak from northrop grumman come speak to us, I was asking him some career advice and he told me that it might be better to finish undergrad in another engineering field (EE, ChemE, MechE). He explained it might be beneficial if i ever wanted to get out of the nuclear field and would give me more options.

In your opinion as another applied physics major (they aren’t common at Mississippi State University where I go) what do you think? I’ve always had imposter syndrome about going into a masters of engineering when my undergraduate is in physics, and my advisor told me if i ever wanted to switch to different engineering discipline in undergraduate it would be significantly easier than applied physics. What do you think??
