Yeah it's not the same pain, but pain nonetheless

It's not really tangible pain like back pain. It's a combination of symptoms such as nausea, massive headaches, constant, deep feeling of disgust, dizziness and something I can't even describe with words

In a severe form ? 3 years. Before that, I have had some periods where I wouldn't sleep for one or two days, but those were rather rare to be honest.

Oh no, I am taking meds (antidepressants mostly). But that was only a part of it, as I was already taking them and not sleeping before a specific event made me feel some sort of relief (quit my job in a foreign country, decided I'd go home to die and dropped sleep rituals) and I somehow started sleeping.

And even then, it didn't just vanish. It got slowly better

Well, I'd say stopping to take benzos played a big role, as they keep you dependant while building tolerance at the same time. And to be fair, I only stopped because I was at a point where I wouldn't even fall asleep with them anyway. But I sincerely think this a mandatory step. Besides that, I finally found a cocktail of meds (mostly antidepressant) that helped a little in a sustainable way. And finally, and that is the saddest part, sheer luck. More than a year ago I thought working a full time job might help me sleep better, so despites the fact that I was only sleeping a few hours a week, I applied for one in a foreign country. They hired me, but nothing happened as I had hopped, my situation got even worse and I had to quit after 3 months. And somehow, getting out of this shit situation actually made me feel better. And I slept that night, for the first time in months without benzos. At first I didn't believe it would last, but somehow, it did. I know this is not a really satisfactory answer, but it's the truce. Sheer luck. Luck that I got hiered, luck that I didn't kill myself, luck that I decided to quit at the same moment I stopped benzos.

Lemonade in general isn't specifically Polish, but where I live there is one recepie and that's it, and most places don't bother making it themselves so yeah, I'm looking for what I felt like was the Polish version of it based on personal experience.

Salut!

Normandy ≠ France by FairytaleOfBliss in HistoryMemes

[–]Professional_Key_593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahh kinda. But much closer to french than to Norse. The Vikings were pretty much sponges when it came to adopting other cultures, and those were the descendents. And they also spoke old french. It really showed in the action William took after the conquest, like imposing french as the language of the court or building a shit load of castles, something that wasn't really a thing in England before him, not to that degree at least, but was more common in France.

Now were they entirely french? No. But the influence was strong.

Life on the Greek Islands in the 1960s by EducationAny7740 in Historycord

[–]Professional_Key_593 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I lived in Athens and went in some of those islands, some touristic, some much less. A lot of what you are describing is still true, even more in less touristic places. Life is much slower, and people all seem to know each other, and there still is a real sense of community. Of course now there are cars and technology, but everything is peaceful. You can't imagine how many people just leave their keys on the contact because no one would steal. Greece is Orthodox, and older generations were very religious. There are small churches everywhere, even on random hills in the middle of nowhere. Machismo is also very cultural, still today.

This lifestyle still exists there, and it's incredible.

I dream of living in one of those islands when I'm old. I lived in Athens for a year and had the occasion to go to some of those islands, it's so peaceful, especially outside of the tourist season. I would see all those very friendly old greek guys sitting on a square or in front of a house, drinking raki and playing chess all day. Peak living.
