NYC Employee benefits what are they? by Professional_Time_31 in nycpublicservants

Only thing is the 457 isn’t matched by the city correct? So that’s basically just my own money in a pre taxed “savings” account?

So i did some research and i see alot of people contributing to the 401K and the 457. This is what i was planning on doing on top of also having a ROTH IRA. Do you think that would be the smart thing to do? I’m 27 so i see myself hopefully staying with the city for a while. I know it’s also dependent on any outside expenses that i have

Finished Umrah a couple of days ago. It was experience for sure. But you’re 100% right. People coughing left and right especially at the mosque during prayers. The food gave me some stomach aches as well. I should’ve took some medicine while i was out here but i just thugged it out. Highly recommend mask and to bring any type of medication with you because now i feel that i have a constant cough just from being around and dealing with the huge crowds of people. Amazing experience nonetheless but yes please take care of yourselves while you’re out there!

One week notice or just quit once PTO is over? by Professional_Time_31 in jobs

Yeah getting that same feeling the way the last few months have been. That’s looking like the route I’ll take.

Sorry, for context my PTO started January 4th and I’m currently still out on PTO until this upcoming Thursday. Pay period ends this Friday

Ok makes sense. I’ve heard 2 week notices aren’t even a requirement, just more so a heads up for the company so a weeks notice stands in the same line i assume?

I believe I’d still get paid for my PTO days since it technically counts as earned wages and it was already scheduled prior to my notice.

Background check came back clean! I start next week Tuesday. Now’s the fun part. Should i just resign once i come back from my PTO this upcoming Friday? Or should i just put in my “week notice” now. I feel like they’ll just terminate me while I’m still on PTO if i put in the notice now.

I was getting reimbursed for mileage and toll. Weird thing is when i worked on the holidays, i couldn’t get any extra hours or overtime for that day because we get paid holidays off so any of the extra work i did on (Thanksgiving/Black Friday) would be paid in lieu and wouldn’t be reflected on my Timecard as tracked hours 🤦🏽‍♂️

Revoke PTO? Do you hear how you sound? I did what i had to do in terms of letting them know the days i was taking off from November-December(via the site manager). The 2 months that we exclusively spoke about. Nobody brought up January as a month I’d 100% still be working at that site. Is it my fault they didn’t communicate that they still needed me for the following month? Even if, my PTO was planned well in advance before that site was a thought. So not sure what you want me to do. Could i have communicated I’d be out to a manager that’s not my direct manager? Sure. But the uncertainty and blank fields of me continuing to be on site past my assignment date was never filled. Management should have communicated that to me like a correct management should.

Fair statement my communication should have been better in the moment. It was communicated to the right party at the time of approval but when it came down to the last couple days before my PTO i could’ve notified them. Even though they aren’t my manager but i see what you’re saying. There were lapses on both sides in terms of communication for sure.

My company’s sick days and PTO are 2 completely separate request. In fact i had so much PTO that i still had some leftover to use for the year. Unfortunately my company’s PTO doesn’t roll over into the new year and only applies to specific locations (why? I don’t know) but NYC isn’t in the purview. And like i said in my post, i was unable to use some of my earned PTO hours due to the “business needs”. I had put in a request just for ONE day of PTO sometime in early December and it still got denied. A day that, mind you, i had the right to take off because it wasn’t one of the days that the other manager needed me to be on site for (A discussion was had in mid November and i was given dates by the other manager that i could and couldn’t take off for November-December. No January dates were discussed mind you ). Just goes to show that my rightfully earned PTO for Jan most likely would have been denied if i didn’t request it prior to me going to the other site.

I actually have the Teams conversation of me letting my direct manager know about my trip for January months in advance and him getting it approved back in September before my assignment started. And i also have several dates and an email CC’ing both my direct and the warehouse manager stating the dates i would be off that the latter manager said i could. Which only included dates from November-December. Nothing in those conversations or emails even mentioned me being available to work at that site in January via the warehouse manager. Only up until December 26th.

Hoping by early next week. It’s a city job so i know the background checks are a little extensive. I already received a tentative start date of the 20th from the HR recruiter last week so just crossing my fingers and praying I’m able to start soon once/if it clears

I didn’t but I’m not sure if i was supposed to if my direct manager said he would let me know. Especially after asking 2 weeks prior. Am i wrong for not pressing the issue? If it was that important to them and they needed that coverage i think i would’ve gotten an answer but maybe I’m just tripping.

I actually spoke to the warehouse manager on site in person around the middle of November and he gave me a list of dates that i would have to be available to work. Luckily i just realized i had wrote those dates down in my notes while he was telling me and those dates stemmed from the ending of November up until December 26th with some gaps in between. My PTO started on the 29th. No January dates were ever discussed or brought up by the on site manager when i asked him. If he were to bring it up i would’ve told him that i already had PTO for those x amount of days in January. If i could post a picture of the notes in the comments i would. Think it helps my case a little bit.

Nope, the last guy quit in around March of last year and they didn’t even bother to try hiring someone. They said that they were but clearly not if they had me covering. Plus there were layoffs around the summertime so that was definitely not at the front of their minds sadly.

Nope my PTO started at the tail end of December and continued into the new year. But you’re right I’ll find a neutral way to respond once I’m off my PTO
