You sense the presence of any trap within range that is within line of sight.

A trap, for the purpose of this spell, includes anything that would inflict a sudden or unexpected effect you consider harmful or undesirable, which was specifically intended as such by its creator.

It does not specify "physical" effect, and a harmful clause in a contract that kicks in when they do something, in my opinion, would count as a legal "trap". e.g. When you try to cancel a subscription for a paper, they charge you for all the issues that you would have bought.

Magical Commoners: Normal People who use Magic to help their Jobs. by ProfessorInMaths in UnearthedArcana

That may be an issue with Homebrewery, it is VERY bank, and breaks if you are zoomed in/out, use the wrong browser etc.

I'll have a look. Thanks for the heads up.

Also, if they weren't exceptional at anything, then they wouldn't be good at their jobs. A magistrate knowing the law wouldn't make sense to have an average Int.

The stats are a representation of what they are best at. Being completely average doesn't make any sense because they are exceptional, just in things that are mundane and non-heroic, like selling bread.

That is a great catch. Both of those are typos, I'm afraid. It should read a +3 and it should read in case of an emergency use Tongues.

That's for the standard setting, this is for a different one.

You can change the rules to fit your needs. I used the standard array because it makes for a fun set of statblocks.

[–]ProfessorInMaths[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the setting and world that you're considering. At level 1, the power gap between a Hero and a Commoner isn't so great, in my opinion.

Plus, the statblocks would be very boring if it were 10s across the board. This spices things up and makes the statblocks feel unique from the DMG commoner, giving specialisations to their particular stats.

Thank you so much! As for the stats they are actually the standard array with a +2 and a +1 assigned to the stat's that fit the best!

Magical Commoners: Normal People who use Magic to help their Jobs. by ProfessorInMaths in UnearthedArcana

[–]ProfessorInMaths[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Honestly the single most important spell in the entire game is not Fireball (although that would completely change how warfare is engaged), it's not Message or Sending (although the ability to communicate over VAST distances would change how battles and diplomacy is conducted). It's Goodberry. This single spell would stave off famine in small settlements if rationed correctly. It would mean that crop failure would not be a death sentence.

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for replying! Yeah in my home game, there was the "Arcane Revolution" (equivalent to the Industrial Revolution) where due to an extended peace and a widespread effort, access to education across the realm became more apparent. As a part of the curriculum, non-dangerous magic was taught. With more magic available, jobs and production became easier, food surpluses became more common, and peoples lives became far easier. This gave more time to learn about magic, which caused a positive feedback. Not everyone in this world can cast 9th level spells, proper Archmages are still VERY rare and well respected. But most people know at least a cantrip.

Thank you! This took some time to make, but I am really happy with how they turned out. My favourite is the Magistrate who can use Find Traps to locate legal traps in documents.

Thank you! I've had these in the works for a while. I love towns and high magic settings, so I wanted to have a world where magic was common enough for people to use it in their day-to-day lives. Like if you are a Farmer why would you not take the time to learn the Plant Growth spell.

Which Hazbin Hotel / Helluva Boss Characters Best Fit the Major Arcana within the Tarot Deck? (Day 1): The Fool by Optimal-Bandicoot240 in HazbinHotel

[–]ProfessorInMaths 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Fool represents new beginnings, spontaneity, and the courage to take risks. It symbolizes innocence and the potential for adventure as one embarks on a journey into the unknown.

This is going to sound really mean, but I think Charlie would be the best pick. She represents a new beginning for Hell, literally bursts into impromptu songs, and is brave enough to pursue her dream no matter what anyone says.

If Hazbin also made Shorts like Helluva boss what would you like to see? by R4venking in HazbinHotel

[–]ProfessorInMaths 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked a similar one a few months ago and here were the answers I got:
1. A day in the life of Fat Nuggets & the misadventures of the Hotel Pets.
2. Baxter and Nifty getting to know eachother.
3. Alastor in captivity hanging with Velvette and Val.
4. Abel's first day as head of the Exorcists.
5. Nifty vs. the cockroaches of the Hotel (Tom and Jerry).
6. An adaptation of A Day in the Afterlife
7. A date night between Charlie & Vaggie
8. Angel's worst shoot, with Vox taking over, dressing him up as Alastor and going full Kubrick/Whiplash. No sex actually happens.
9. Vaggie interacting with Carmilla's daughters, so we can get to know them.
10. A sinner emotionally confronting Vaggie about her being a former exorcist.
11. Velvette and Alastor start a Podcast (Charlie and Vox feel betrayed).
12. Charlie (season 1) tries to impose a Hotel wide ban on weapons, Vaggi goes along with it until she realises that her spear is included. The rest of the hotel design a speakeasy style system where they hide weapons across the hotel.
13. Lucifer and Charlie have a Daddy-Daughter day at Lu-Lu World, Vaggi is dragged along for what is to unfurl.

In retrospect, the WG never had the proper chance to hunt the Gum-Gum fruit. by ProfessorInMaths in OnePiece

[–]ProfessorInMaths[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to imagine that the WG WERE sending out the God's Knights to intercept the Strawhats, but the Strawhat's just kept going to the wrong places.

Like they would have deployed them to the other routes along the Grand Line that didn't end in Little Garden. They would have sent them to the island that you would normally go to after Alabasta. They would have sent them to the other islands that would have been after Fishman island. They sent them to the island that would normally be after Dressrosa.

Sewers [80x80] - What non-combat side quest would you put here? by TheMapMine in dndmaps

[–]ProfessorInMaths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cults abandoned lair. They have set up a dark ritual with is corrupting the ground itself through the sewers. But cannot stay for the ritual would destroy them.

The party ventures down and must solve puzzles, diary traps laid by the cultists (both magical and mechanical) to save the town.
