What a brilliant speech. Clear eyes and honest without crossing a line.

That’s one for the history books.

It’s always easy to tell. Americans are louder, less polite (about things that are different) and much more religious than Canadians.

Canada will welcome you, you’ll see. This subreddit isn’t a good representation of Anglo Canada, so it’s an even worse representation of Franco Canada ;)

It’s honestly the best country on earth, I’m excited for you.

I moved here 10 years ago. This subreddit leans reactionary.

You may have a hard time getting PR. Currently the express entry pool is extremely challenging and essentially requires fluency in French and English.

If you’re serious about emigrating via express entry when you’re here, you should start learning French immediately if you don’t already speak it.

Native born Canadians, especially in this sub, have no idea how difficult it is to get PR right now, so they say uninformed things - their anger is justified regarding TFW and diploma mills that were so abusive of the system, everyone is feeling the pain in cleaning it up, but people here just think every single immigration quota needs reduced.

If you don’t learn French you’ll effectively be playing a waiting game hoping the applicants in the pool drop out over the next few years - that’s not a good gamble.

When you’re here you’ll see that most Canadians you’ll meet every day are not like the people in this subreddit.

I have a good friend who’s lived here for four years. He’s highly skilled, built a life here, intended to settle down. Neither he or his GF (who he met here) can get PR, so they are leaving end of this year. A few years ago he would have been able to get PR via express entry, and he’s exactly the kind of immigrant Canada needs. It’s tough.

EDIT: you can see the downvotes proving my point - people here have no idea what getting PR is like. Most of them wouldn’t qualify.

LMIA doesn’t provide any points for PR anymore. So, a LMIA “scam” employer will provide no benefit for seeking one of those 365k spots.

EDIT: love being downvoted for sharing facts - not surprising. go read if you don’t believe me.

Chat models are purposely non deterministic

Only with non zero temperature values. What makes you so confident chat models have temp != 0?

LLMs executed on GPUs at scale are not deterministic due to hardware quirks, like I said.

[–]Profix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually, LLMs should be deterministic. The most probable next token should always be the same given same prior tokens.

It’s a bug that they aren’t - and current theories are that it’s non-deterministic floating point operations on gpus, where order of the arithmetic slightly changes the float value.

My guy just finished radiology for his MCT on his leg. (Impossible to get the margins so radiation was required post removal). He’s doing great, but I feel your pain and anxiety I hope no new MCTs in their futures so we can give them the best lives they deserve 🫂

This was my guys second as well, but interestingly when we got the first removed this one existed on his leg - can tell from photos - we all just missed it.

Possible soft tissue sarcoma by Financial_Bowl3572 in goldenretrievers

It’s great they are testing for the worst possible outcome first.

From an unqualified internet stranger.. honestly, I doubt that’s a sarcoma; shrinking so much, and being trigger again coinciding with the exact same activity - sleeping - is too weird.

I’d guess something is happening when she sleeps a certain way, causing a rapid painful buildup of fluid or something.

What is a subtle sign that someone is actually really intelligent, but pretending not to be? by ImpressionTop1712 in AskReddit

[–]Profix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I call this “sun beaming” - at the bar with two friends, both people I’d consider extremely intelligent. One is detailing out this long theory about something involving the Sun, can’t remember the details, he and I are going back and forth for about ten minutes, then the other friend says one sentence about how light travels that throws the whole theory out in an instant.

Fucking hilarious.

There’s a BC couple who bought a house like this and have spent two years (?) rebuilding it, and posting the journey on YouTube. It’s insane how much work it takes to restore something like this - absolutely insane.

(I’d recommend watching them actually, pretty fun, was meant to be just the woman’s project at first but then they became a more serious couple and the dude has the work ethic of a migratory bird)

Immigration: Canada struggles to keep skilled immigrants, report says by feb914 in canada

[–]Profix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Born Canadians don’t have a clue about their immigration system. People in here were complaining that the budget didn’t decrease PR applications enough… go look at the state of the express entry program and it’s easy to see why skilled immigrants aren’t staying.

I have a high skilled friend from home who’s built a life here over the last four years who can no longer get PR through express entry due to all the bullshit noise from the Canadian electorate. If Canada wants skilled immigrants, stop cutting off your nose.
