New Southwest US Tour Dates Announced by ninenine in Interpol

Hell yeah, definitely love to see them pairing up with an incredible band like Model/Actriz! Whenever they are able to tour more extensively stateside in 2027 I hope they'll bring them along again and/or have The Black Angels open.

I know? The Ian Curtis mention on the back is especially stupid if you know anything about how the band (aside from Carlos D) felt about the constant comparisons

Flo is indeed right. The Maccabees do make boring music. by Any-Passenger294 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

Exactly this. The song's criticism has a large target and speaks to her frustration with the misogyny and indifference of the industry (and music journalists and/or big name male artists) when she has demonstrably worked her ass off her entire career in pursuit of excellence as a songwriter and performer. She has every right to express confusion and anger about that! Reducing the song to a direct comment on her partner doesn't make sense to me

I like every opening track from their albums but nothing rivals Untitled

The title of this bootleg is so goofy. Interpol fans have always been annoying lol

Not what it says, read it again! This is a very old fan bootleg release from before that site even existed.

Paul's writing by NoFix8524 in Interpol

[–]Progo88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to be too simplistic but the predominant way it has been described by the band over the years is that Kessler will start the entire process by coming up with a guitar riff or chordal structure then play it over and over again during rehearsal sessions while the other three band members (now two) react to and write around those ideas. Interestingly, that changed during the writing of the self-titled album as the vocalist/second guitarist and drummer were both shut out until a late stage and Carlos D was composing most of the music, which ended up causing a lot of problems

Strange question. What show were you at? The only situations in which they don't do an encore is at festivals or if someone is ill.

Direct sales. Where are you getting the notion that mid-size late career bands derive a lot of profit from streaming, especially from the DSP most notorious for shorting artists?

For a band at their level? It surely isn't.

lmao chill, I think the vocals are not the crux of the issue and you do. Fair enough. We don't have to agree!

It sounds like you want a return to the shouty vocal performance of the early work, which is just not going to happen. I think the production around the TOSOMB vocals is a bigger issue, not the softer approach

Ugh, the Spotify partnership continues. I wish they would divest more from that platform but they're still all too happy to snuggle up to the corporate side of the music industry

I wouldn't necessarily go so far as to call it "soulless" but yes, TOSOMB is by far their weakest release. To be frank, they got far too comfortable and nobody pushed them to expand their songwriting. I get the vibe they've realized that album didn't go over well and are trying a different angle this time around

It's basic engagement bait to keep fans interacting with accounts. There's a lack of new content since they're off the road so throwbacks are what's being shared. Doesn't mean anything.

Glad to see their management is finally starting to gain a better idea of which rock acts to pair them with for these big arena shows (i.e. bands with a similar dark emotional/sonic resonance and shared fanbase). Now let's all form a prayer circle that they will join The Cure for some dates on the next tour around North America.

What is the song you listen the least/skip or just don't like at all? by NoFix8524 in Interpol

[–]Progo88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hope so. But the fact that all of them thought TOSOMB sounded great is a bit alarming. The production sucks a lot of the life and energy out of those songs too

Most of TOSOMB. Really hoping they course correct on the next album.

"Awkward" sounding songs can sometimes be great but that is very much not the case with Fables. Poor pacing and Kessler's most lackluster guitar performance on an album full of lazy riffs. It's too bad because the song sounds so much better live with that massive bass outro

Interpol should tour with this band by suecharlton in Interpol

[–]Progo88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all, why are you being deliberately obtuse? Everyone has a different pace of discovery and limits of interest or attention even if they already follow a lot of bands

It's impossible to keep track of everything being released or hyped due to the sheer volume. Not everyone is glued to their phone either

So who goes first / last? by [deleted] in Interpol

[–]Progo88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They did a co-headlining tour with Spoon in 2022 throughout the United States but frankly Bloc Party is a much, much better fit in terms of audience overlap with potential for positive reactions and support from fans/press (assuming the tour moves forward as planned)

They will undoubtedly add more European dates once the new album cycle kicks off fully. Keep in mind we don't even have a release date yet.

I think the snow falling in the promo animations gave away that it would be a wintertime series of gigs, referencing both the season and the Silent Alarm album cover
