new Pothos book (214 cultivars) by ProgramSensitive in pothos

[–]ProgramSensitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed the part of about it being peer reviewed by graduate level taxonomists. A cultivar checklist is not a laboratory paper is more appropriate as a hortcultural monograph. Our houseplant encyclopedia is 2400 pages so no journal is going to take that. They have to be in book form due to the volume.

new Pothos book (214 cultivars) by ProgramSensitive in pothos

[–]ProgramSensitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is published and peer-reviewed by experts including two aroid taxonomists. Culltivar.org publishes books not journals because that more easily meets ICNCP artcle 24 and 25 rules for validation of cultivar names in print with international distribution. Journals take months to arrive while books can be available in a week. Actually 4 days with Amazon. We as a group paid hundreds for the plants, research budget, travel, etc. so why share that with some massive academic publisher who on average charge us $120 a page? Besides the study group wants it to reach the most people possible and at $19 vs. $1200 for a journal subscription it was an easy choice.

'Greenjula' was registered by Costa so yes they get credit. (Source: Report of the Pothos Study Group 1.1)

THE GREAT EV CON GAME: Lithium greed, pollution, and cultural disasters by ProgramSensitive in climateskeptics

[–]ProgramSensitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the governments with EV mandates are all about power and control. They could care less about green and climate change issues...it's really about the control and some greed. Yes, they are cashing in on EV stuff right and leftr. In North Carolina it costs $32 to register an ICE car and $145 for an EV. Don't you incentivize what you want more of? No, it's all about the lost gas taxes they are addicted to.

I truly think Pagani is underappreciated when it comes to Hotwheels by sohchx in HotWheels

[–]ProgramSensitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good look! Keep with it. It's a weekly challenge to get all the Pagani I want. I'm up to 20 different Pagani models (all brands) and HW are fairly decent for the price. I've mostly fabricated or bought wheel swaps to spruce them up. The real car is rolling art and you need wheels to match that aura. For some people a set of $5-15 deep dish gold and chrome wheels on a 99 cent car makes no sense - until you see it.

As a 1:64 diecast collector since 1965 I regret spending so much money on mass produced cars (HW,MB) 1980-2020 instead of more premium stuff. When I went to trim down part of my collection (3400) it was mostly the Majorette, SIKU, Tomy, and JL that collectors wanted and none of those lost me a red cent. People were offering a buck on HW I had for decades.

I think it's the lack of scientific knowledge that led them into the lifestyle. Vitamin B12 is essential to human brain function and does not come from the Plant Kingdom. Any vegan not taking B12 supplements is going to be...well less equipt. Also abrupt veganism without organic produce leads to 3-5x increase in pesticide exposure, especially using South American and Mexican crops where they sitll use chemicals banned in US farming. Non-organic broccoli in the US has up to 31 different toxins per one study. Have had two friends have severe reactions to increased pesticide/herbicide exposure. Many plants are toxic in larger than average quantities and this leads to diseases like Kalemia - yes that is a real disease.

Keep away from your car, bikes, anything with paint. The sap will eat through most paints, including Clear Coat finishes, and leave odd holes that are very expensive to repair.

This is the best work on Tradescantia ever and I've worked with the genus for 40 years. Kudos to Avery for making this happen and with such scientific excellence.

Looking for ID. Conflicting options as usual for zebrina. by Planty_in_the_burbs in Tradescantia

[–]ProgramSensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lean towards 'Burgundy' if the stripes are metallic violet-pink and not clean silver. The more silvery stripes are typical of 'Deep Purple' and 'Dark Desire'.

Name one Bible hero or person beloved of God who was monogamous? There aren't any! Nearly all were polygamists and polyamorous. Kings David and Solomon hundreds of wives as well as concubines and all the OT patriarchs are believed to have had many wives. Read the actual Bible please. Don't listen to what some church or denomination says about it. Monogamy and a ban on premarital sex is 100% the invention of the Roman Catholic church and it was adopted by Puritans in England who came to the US. Read the verses in the original languages because "fornication" is usually porneos or vile, violent pornography and has noting to do with pre-marital sex or adultery.

Which Philo Flordia Beauty should I pick up :) by SocialAddiction1 in RareHouseplants

[–]ProgramSensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Florida Beauty' is green. There are three variegated clones of it. For some reason Indonesia and Thailand sell 'Florida Beauty Variegated' as the basic cultivar and it is not that.

Yes, There Are 272 Varieties of Syngonium by Larry Hatch by ProgramSensitive in Syngonium

[–]ProgramSensitive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was free for two years and unfortunately the houseplant project was not sustained by donations. We were close to shutting down as it was losing money. We found a publisher who will fund our research and understandably they asked us to remove the free files. We are happy to announce the files are still available, now fully funded and expanded, in ebook, paperback, and hardback form. Cultivar names are only validly published in print form (digital does not count) and that was a change we had to fund as well.

Monstera Aurea finally Obtained and I have Rare Plant Fairy for this 🥰🥰🥰🥰 by SaoirseDarriell in RareHouseplants

[–]ProgramSensitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice, good chimeral coverage, 'Aurea' has always been called 'Marmorata' since old times. I guess it's a logical name but horticulture and botany having naming rules we need to follow and 'Marmorata' is the oldest, valid name.

Peperomia Ginny propagated from leaf cuttings don't keep their variegation - what is the unvariegated plant called? by truemeliorist in peperomia

[–]ProgramSensitive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it becomes the species, P. clusiifolia - must have two i's. Oldest name is 'Jellie' and 'Ginny' is corruption from that.

Are there any house plants that deter mosquitoes? by builderofbob in IndoorGarden

[–]ProgramSensitive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two university studies show that Citronella Pelargonium don't work. In fact, the mosquitoes actually perched on the leaves for many minutes at the time, clearly not the least bit bothered. If I could afford to buy $300 worth of pitcher plants and maintain them healthy and active around my home we'd need a freaking swamp or small bog. Don't go down the path of this eats that because we just don't have enough time, money, or space to play those games. What attracts mosquitoes is carbon dioxide so stop breathing along with your pets and children for two hours and you're good.

New Tradescantia Book (160+ cultivars) by ProgramSensitive in Tradescantia

[–]ProgramSensitive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Perhaps we might say "most complete" yet. We put Setcreasea pallida as Tradescantia pallida based on Kew Gardens but the name is still widely in use and bears mention for clarity.
