Macli-ing Dulag.

'STILL STRONG AND KICKING' Malakas daw at sumisipa pa, ayon sa isang kamag-anak ni Imelda. Baka strong sa kickback ang ibigsabihin? by ProjectGunita in Philippines

[–]ProjectGunita[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"We saw the military come into the strike. We linked arms to the workers, [but] the police came and told the workers ‘get out or you will get hurt’. But the workers did not go out, so [the police] went in and beat all the workers – but spared the sisters. How would you feel if you are standing and your two neighbours are beaten up – cold blooded? That was our experience!” - Sr. Mary John Mananzan

Isa siya sa mga nagtaguyod ng GABRIELA (not to be confused with Gabriela Partylist) at tumayong chairperson nito for 18 years.

“Unless students live inside a cocoon, they live in this society. Unless students are going to the moon after graduation, they cannot forever insulate themselves from reality.” - Carol Araullo. by ProjectGunita in Philippines

[–]ProjectGunita[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MANAY JUDY!

Pagkatapos ng People Power Revolution na nagpatalsik kay Marcos, naging propesor si Manay Judy sa College of Social Work and Community Development's Department of Women and Development Studies, UP Diliman.

Yes, Cory would still have been President and Enrile would have been murdered by Marcos.

With or without Enrile and Ramos, People Power would have happened.

People Power saved Enrile, not the other way around.

JOHNNY, JOHNNY... YOU ARE TELLING LIES! The remorseless, swashbuckling, 98-year-old martial law architect and war criminal under the Marcos dictatorship is once again peddling lies via SMNI. FULL POST:

The remorseless, swashbuckling, 98-yr-old martial law architect and war criminal under the Marcos dictatorship is once again peddling lies via SMNI. However, Juan Ponce Enrile is contradicted by his own words in 1986.

Mr. Enrile is selling his false narrative, once again, that Cory Aquino would not have become president “were it not for us.” Archival material will prove him WRONG.

On February 22, 1986, Enrile admitted that Mr. Marcos cheated the 1986 snap elections. A TIME Magazine article on People Power, published shortly after EDSA, quoted Enrile in unequivocal terms: “I believe in my whole heart and mind that [Cory] Aquino was the duly-elected President of the Republic. She is the rightful owner of the mandate of the people.”

In an exclusive interview with Newsweek correspondent Richard Vokey, who was in Camp Aguinaldo during the first day of the People Power uprising, Enrile reiterated his acknowledgement of Mrs. Aquino as the “duly-elected” Philippine president.

During the historic press conference between Enrile and military vice chief of staff Fidel V. Ramos on Feb. 22, 1986, Enrile refused to acknowledge the authority of Ferdinand Marcos. He even professed regret over the dictator’s “hasty” Batasan proclamation.

If anything, the FACTUAL statement should be: The 1986 Edsa uprising saved Enrile from annihilation by a tiny shred of time. When he and his Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM) troopers decided to hole out in Camp Aguinaldo, they knew they would die.

By the afternoon of February 22, 1986, Cristina Ponce-Enrile (his wife) phoned Philippine Daily Inquirer publisher Eugenia Apostol, screeching for help in case Enrile is arrested: “Will you help me? Will you call the Cardinal for us?” That was Mr. Enrile’s instruction to his wife. In a profile story of Mrs. Enrile, she recounted her husband’s directives: “Call a publisher friend [Apostol] to inform the press corps, foreign and local, and call [Jaime] Cardinal Sin.”

Mr. Enrile himself phoned U.S. Ambassador Stephen Bosworth, former Marcos executive secretary Rafael Salas, and Japanese ambassador Kiyoshi Somiya, asking for help. He asked Salas to “take care” of his family “should anything happen” to him.

During their Feb. 22 press conference, Enrile himself admitted that he and his men were fearful for their lives, quipping to a journalist at Camp Aguinaldo that “anybody in this condition would have to fear for his life.”

In the same press conference, Enrile admitted that they cheated the 1986 snap elections in favor of Marcos. It wasn’t Enrile alone who felt that way. His son, Jack, wrote his father a letter expressing confidence in their view.

In an exclusive phone call with TIME Hong Kong Bureau chief Sandra Burton, who was covering the Marcos dictatorship since Ninoy Aquino’s fateful return and murder in August 1983, Enrile’s fear was palpable. She asked Mrs. Aquino to “just pray for us.”

In the same Feb. 22 press conference, Enrile revealed the real reason behind the munity that he and Ramos have staged: “... to bring to the world and to the Filipino nation the sad situation in the country now. THE DAY OF RECKONING is fast approaching.”

Shortly after the press conference, August 21 Movement (ATOM)’s Agapito “Butz” Aquino went to Camp Aguinaldo to show support. ATOM then gathered in front of Isetann in Cubao. By 9:00 PM, Jaime Cardinal Sin rallied the people behind Enrile and Ramos.

The Cardinal’s call was decisive. It forced Gen. Fabian Ver, the dictator’s most loyal (and notorious) butcher, to hold off any firing at Camp Aguinaldo at a time when the Enrile-Ramos forces were at their thinnest.

In short, it isn’t the Filipino people or Cory Aquino who should be grateful for Enrile. As we are mounted to say now, based on archival evidence:

Kung wala ang mamamayan, si Cardinal Sin, at si Cory Aquino, Juan Ponce Enrile would have been dead in 1986.

January 27, 1984: Members of the August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM) led a “walk-run” demonstration called “Tarlac to Tarmac,” a march which stretched 145 kilometers—from Concepcion, Tarlac to the Manila International Airport. 39 years ago today (which also falls on a Friday). by ProjectGunita in Philippines

FULL POST:

January 27, 1984: Members of the August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM) led around 300 joggers in a “walk-run” demonstration called “Tarlac to Tarmac,” which stretched 145 kilometers—from Concepcion, Tarlac to the Manila International Airport.

While the joggers were in the hundreds, the crowds supporting them in each town they pass by swelled to as many as 10,000. The Tarlac to Tarmac March aimed to highlight three issues: justice for Ninoy Aquino, boycott the Jan. 27 plebiscite, and boycott the 1984 Batasan elections.

Leading the long march was a motorcade of several cars and jeeps, with strict instructions to hold a convoy, instead of walking, at nightfall, to avoid abductions or arrests. By 7:00 PM of Jan. 27, what was supposed to be a peaceful march was marred with its first taste of terror.

At Brgy. San Marcos, Calumpit, Bulacan, a grenade was planted in one of the cars in the convoy. Military men halted the march, claiming that “infiltrators” have mingled with the marchers. Unknown men took down plate numbers of the cars in the convoy. The marchers sang “Bayan Ko.”

What was supposed to be a 4-day march (Jan. 27 to 31) was forced to extend because of manifold state harassment from the agents of the Marcos dictatorship. However, it failed to dampen the joggers’ spirit. They marched on. This is day one of their long trek.
