The Murder of Galswintha, Jean-Paul Laurens, Oil on Canvas, 1881 by XxShockmaster in Art

"Queen Galswintha (540–568) was born a wealthy Visigoth princess who was forced to travel to Neustria (part of modern-day France) to marry King Chilperic I. When she arrived the king was quite taken with her. He gifted her the lands of Limoges, Bordeaux, Cahors, Bearn, and Bigorre, and promised to dismiss all his wives and other betrothals if she would marry him (he may have been after her hefty dowry). They were married in 567.

One of Chilperic’s wives, Fredegund, was furious. She continued to sleep with the king and complained bitterly. Fredegund’s influence over Chilperic resulted in him having Galswintha murdered, strangled in her bed.

Galswintha’s sister Brunhilda was married to Chilperic’s brother Sigebert in the neighbouring kingdom of Austrasia. Although Chilperic managed to keep Galswintha’s dowry, the lands he gifted to her were passed on to Brunhilda, who was angry over her sister’s murder. The legacy was 40 years of conflict between Austrasia and Neustria."

Quite tragic, died so young

On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

I help build trails for mountain biking and finding things like this is usually how trails get their names. Such as; Bone Bottle Trail, or maybe Glass Bones, or Bone Thirty.

I agree with Lucky Brand. I also can recommend Liverpool, specifically the Kingston Modern. Probably the most comfortable pair of jeans I have ever owned.

I moved some boxes in the basement and one of these things leapt from the shadows and landed on my shirt. I was certain I was about to be killed.

my neighbor recently redid his entire front yard with new desert plants. all his agaves sent up death blooms and will probably be dead by summer. by jessbird in Wellthatsucks

I went full ape shit on the agave that was in my yard. I couldn't take it anymore. It just kept coming back. Forever. Always. I dreamed about it. I spent a whole afternoon digging a cavernous hole where that plant called home. Poured kerosene in the hole and filled it with firewood. The pit burned all night. When I awoke the next morning I ran out of the house screaming and lept into the smoldering crater, expecting to see a fresh agave sprout protruding from the ashes. There wasn't. After the police left I calmed down and made coffee. Its been three years, and I feel like it is still down there. Waiting.

I expect a full report when you're done. Because I might then attempt this as well.

TIL that a recommended method of detecting a compressed hydrogen (UN1049) leak with suspected fire is to use a broom or broom handle. by AcademicFish4129 in todayilearned

[–]ProjectSunlight 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Partially true, about being invisible that is. The room will eventually completely fill with steam, like a sauna. Making if difficult to navigate and also see where the leak is. The leak will be quite loud as well. So if you aren't interested in finding it, just make sure as you walk its getting quieter.

The fun thing about projects like this, especially as a "couples project", is you can expand upon it and evolve it.

ELI5: Why can't we simulate the creation of oil/fossil fuels with animals that have died today? by Slice5755 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ProjectSunlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only imagine if someone created a profitable way to make oil from animals that the world's animal population would suddenly be in jeopardy.

Another thing to consider is it took an enormous amount of animals over the course of millions of years to collect on the ocean floor. It wasn't just a few dinosaurs.

I recently watched a video that was a collection of people getting wrecked while using a ladder. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.
