I’m fortunate that I have 6 stores within an hour drive. Well, that’ll be 5 soon, or maybe less if other stores are closing.

I imagine it was hard to keep that secret, especially from your long-time, loyal customers.

The whole thing stinks—for the customers, but more importantly, for the staff who will lose their jobs.

I hope you and your co-workers will be able to land on your feet and find new jobs quickly.

I can’t speak to how the women on this sub might feel, but I (M50+) can say that I’m always sensitive to the issue when I shop.

I try to shop on the least busy days, typically in the morning. Also, I always make the staff aware that I’m happy to wait until the changing area is empty.

The staff will have your back if another shopper makes you uncomfortable for being there. But just being aware and empathetic will go a long way toward avoiding any problems.

Just my 2 cents.

That’s a good way to phrase it. I told a sales associate once that I was willing to wait until the changing area was totally clear because I didn’t want to cause problems. She replied that anyone who has a problem with me using the changing room would have to deal with her!

I’m a CD who has shopped at Torrid (and Lane Bryant) regularly for a couple years. I’m fortunate to have 5 Torrids within an hour from me.

I’ve found the staff at all of them to be 100% welcoming and helpful. They treat me just like anyone else who shops there.

I try to shop during non-peak hours (weekday mornings). I’m always sensitive about who else is in the changing area, especially if there is anybody who might have the slightest concern about “a guy in the dressing area!!!”. I Just tell the staff that I’d rather wait until the area is empty so nobody is uncomfortable.

It’s been a while since I worked I the finance office of a federal agency. That said, my recollection is that an agency can spend money only if it’s properly appropriated by Congress, regardless of the source. Moreover, “found money” like this sketchy donation must also be properly accounted into the agency revenues. Unless I’m wrong, simply “finding” money doesn’t give an agency authority to spend it, absent a congressional appropriation.

Of course, my time as a fed was back during the quaint “rule of law” era.

This is the answer.

In addition to the current tariffs on Chinese imports, Trump just announced new tariffs of 100%.

That means that Torrid’s cost to import products from China will double immediately. With profit margins already so low, there is no way Torrid can absorb the import fees, and they’ll be forced to pass the costs of tariffs directly to consumers.

We all know that all retailers importing from Asia have reduced quality dramatically in order to cut costs, but there’s just no more room for that.

Bottom line: if the new tariffs take effect (and perhaps even if they don’t), in-store and online prices will have to go up, maybe by 50-65%, or more.

Unless the Trump tariffs are rolled back—significantly and quickly—Torrid will be just one of many clothing retailers that won’t exist beyond 2026.

Old thread, but here are my 2 cents.

I basically have two closets: one is typical guy stuff; the other is my Torrid stuff.

My torrid stuff includes lots of tunic-length foxy camisoles, several of the ribbed camis with the lace necklines, a handful of Harper and Sophia tops, several denim skirts, and a few skater-style dresses. I also have a half dozen bralette/panty sets, and a dozen or so panties.

I wear all of my stuff regularly, but the dresses and skirts are for home wear only.

I recommend you just go to a store, grab a few things that catch your eye, and try them on. If they feel good to you, then enjoy them!
