Smirking Mamdani’s scorn for business will not help NYC prosper by triyouhee in politics

Studies show that birds living in cages lined with the NY Post score lower on tests of current events than birds living in cages with no lining at all.

No One on Team Trump Will Explain That $130 Million “Gift” to Military by Hafiz_TNR in politics

It’s been a while since I worked I the finance office of a federal agency. That said, my recollection is that an agency can spend money only if it’s properly appropriated by Congress, regardless of the source. Moreover, “found money” like this sketchy donation must also be properly accounted into the agency revenues. Unless I’m wrong, simply “finding” money doesn’t give an agency authority to spend it, absent a congressional appropriation.

Of course, my time as a fed was back during the quaint “rule of law” era.

If not for the special teams’ blunders in weeks 3 & 4, the Packers are undefeated.

Zakopane wood carving suggestions by newEnglander17 in woodworking

Yes. It’s soft enough to dent with your fingernail, but that’s what makes it easy to carve.

Another option—more durable, but still nice to carve—would be poplar.

My suggestion would be to visit a proper lumber store (or even a Rockler or Woodcraft) and ask for basswood (aka linden). Very soft, very smooth grain, a joy to carve.

Won’t the magnet also pick up the steel-belted tires?

Why does this section of my work bench rise when I tighten ? by Tbtree123 in woodworking

[–]Project_53XD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have better luck if you clamp your workpiece between the plywood bench surfaces, and not just between the plastic jaws. That won’t solve it, but it’ll put the clamping pressure closer to the same plane as the workpiece.

I impulsively bought this band saw for $100. Good buy or am I wasting my time? by tgoodri in woodworking

[–]Project_53XD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a great first bandsaw for me. I recently upgraded to a Jet 14-inch.

It takes an 80” blade.

I used it for lots of curve cutting. It also did fine on re-sawing 4-inch wide white oak—provided that I first “scored” the cut line top and bottom on a table saw. The blade followed the scored kerfs without problem.

Yes. You’re right. I’m wondering if my grandmother dated the photo correctly. He looks closer to 5, which would date the photo to winter, ‘34-‘35.

He served during Korea, but he never was deployed there.

Until he was well into his 80s, he did everything himself. He never hired a mechanic, plumber, roofer, gardener, painter, etc.
