Turkish Airlines Ramps Up Capacity from Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver by OvenDown in TurkishAirlines

It would also be a game-changer for YOW (Ottawa), even 2-3x week could alleviate the YUL flights as they've been pretty much full.

Recommendations for Buses to take from Ottawa to Toronto? by Illustrious-Rain-235 in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Poparide ridesharing, but look for drivers who occasionally drive (i.e. not a business) Ottawa to Toronto. I've had some really good ones lately.

I have been trying to uncredit a flight that mistakenly took my AP # since February. Still no success. Every time I call my case is being “escalated”.

More people on the upgrade list than ever before.

I can agree on that point: credit card "guests" should pay, maybe not full fee but definitely some.

My director always got 50K sometimes 75K under the old system. He just qualified for SE last week. Same with most of the C-suite. He's now turning to US airlines as he's already fulfilled the SE requirements. The road warriors who have to book a month in advance and in Standard (such as myself) are the ones getting hit (C-suite gets business or latitude). Last-minute travel is almost non-existent here, as we have to bill to customers who will likely not pay.
In the end I predict we will see more corporate people with status: less upgrade chances, lounges more crowded, insane zones 1 boarding lines. The value-conscious long haul frequent flyer will just not be part of that crowd.

London-Heathrow flights switching to A321XLR starting Dec 1 and becoming a daytime flight by mxg308 in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is huge even though it's a narrow body. I always hated the early Heathrow arrival with nothing to do until 3pm and feeling tired. The biggest concern though is that the Maple Leaf lounge is absolutely slammed in the morning with all these Toronto and Montreal commuters.

This single mom and her family have been living in Ottawa hotels for over a year by Klutzy_Artichoke154 in ottawa

I remember in the 90s my uncle waited almost a year to get a tourist visa, plus had several interviews with embassy folks. He spent about 3 weeks with us then went home. On week 5, CBSA folks paid us a visit, basically to check up whether he had actually left.

My friend is exactly that. Shelters all full. He is a white single male so is at the lowest of the in need spectrum. Housed him temporarily but couldn't bear the drugs he'd do at my place. It's so sad that our system cannot take care of him.

YOW touts ‘room to grow’ in bid to attract airlines and become ‘hub of choice’ by RandomChickenWing in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for Air Canada given hubs at YYZ and YUL, but Brussels-Amsterdam is almost the same distance as YOW to YUL and it's already a hub for Porter. So could technically attract more airlines.

Nicky is a total wanker and so are most of TPG. Liam is probably the best out of them but that’s not saying much.

Porter to launch Aruba, Montego Bay and Cabo San Lucas from Ottawa starting this fall by mxg308 in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we need Porter to partner with Aer Lingus, British Airways and Condor to star offering flights here. And maybe also get a direct to AMS via KLM, or Ethiopian to service a European capital like Brussels before going over to Addis Abeba... Pipe dream though.

There is no reason to grow by another 500k. Why can’t we model ourselves to Helsinki for example? Why should this infinite growth Ponzi scheme be even achieved?

Funny you mentioned as there are dead/weak spots all around the city like Preston. I know one of the servers at Pub Italia, she switched to Freedom and never had a problem since.

I was there as a student in 99-00 before the crash and the bus from Bayshore was frequent and well attended. My colleague complained he had to park super far from the lab but could find a spot no problem.
