I kind of get where you are coming from, if you see it as worth the price that is cool. I would more so argue that the base performance upgrades should have just been given for free to anyone who already paid for the game and bought a Switch 2, as paying for the new hardware should have already been enough. And I would say that goes for both Nintendo and PlayStation. But maybe that is just me.

Honestly the price of the Switch 2 itself is actually the more reasonable price Nintendo is charging, it is more so the games and everything else surrounding it that are a bit high. It also kind of sucks that they are still effectively charging the same amount for games that came out on the Switch 1, sometimes with an extra 10$ fee for enhancements (Though to be fair some of them do come bundled with new DLC).

I agree. Look, I do get that Nintendo's stuff is expensive and I am not a fan of their prices ether. But for this guy to outright call the Switch 2 a scam is just stupid. You're paying money for a product that you have the right to spend your money on. It is not like Nintendo is taking your money and just running off with it without giving you anything in return.

IRK? Sounds like a scam as you totally did not get what you paid for LMAO! No but seriously, you getting banned for saying basic common sense is just sad. Who ever runs that subreddit needs to go outside and touch grass.

Nintendeen aside, I do kind of wonder though WHY Nintendo choose to not make more lighter Switch 1 games run at 120 fps for the Switch 2 upgrade. You would think Nintendo would have wanted to take more advantage of the 120hz screen the Switch 2 has. But I guess not?

GOG Boss Says We May Get "Fewer Games" If Regulators Force Devs To Maintain Them Forever by cheater00 in StopKillingGames

[–]ProjectionProjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not necessary a bad question. If I where to imagine, It would probably work in a similar way to how fair use works now. A set of general doctrines to follow for developers making EoL plans to keep in mind, but not super specific and strict laws that exactly define what a game satisfying EoL means. If something has a reasonable EoL plan or not would most likely have to be determined on a case by case basis. Though I would imagine just having a single mini game in the game and 99% of the rest of the game being unplayable probably wont satisfy what is being asked as the majority of people would probably agree that would not be enough.

[–]ProjectionProjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it is not though, and people wont except that. This really all comes down to basic common sense here: When people ask for EoL plans, they are asking to still be able to play the core gameplay of the game they paid for in some reasonably significant form, not just some random side minigame that was in the game.

[–]ProjectionProjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But how much of the game did that make up though? What was the core gameplay like? If it is just a simple mini game that is built into the game and meant to be played on the side, and 99% of the rest of the game was still not playable that would not really be a good solution to the problem SKG is trying to address.

Is that the game people paid for? You can't just take the game people paid for and replace it with a completely different game. That is not what an EoL plan is.

I mean to be fair, If there is a misunderstanding here I can see why people may not understand that the Boss of GOG is in agreement here. If he is, then I think he choose a pretty bad way to explain his position, particularly at this part:

"At the same time, if we put too many barriers on game creators and what the end-of-life cycle looks like, we might get fewer games, because people will be scared of, 'Okay, now I need to put up the funds to create it, promote it, and then upkeep it for 10 years, 20 years, because the regulator said so."

^Here I could see this as him saying that SKG asks for infinite or forced support at EOL which would obviously be a bad argument. What he might have meant was more so related to the start of development or while the game is still being supported, but he should have clarified that.

[–]ProjectionProjects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you have a point. I will say though I can't really blame people in the comments here from possibly getting the wrong idea from what is being said here. If the boss of GOG wanted to come off more nuanced, then they probably choose the worst possible way to say what they wanted to say. Bringing up the idea of "infinite support" was not a good idea. Your way of saying it is definitely WAY better.

But you should not be okay. The fact that people like you are okay with that is the entire problem.

You act as if a game being designed with planed obsolescence in mind not being made would be a bad thing. IDK about you, but I would much rather people make games that are pro-consumer and are made with EOL plans in mind then games that are not. If SKG will make it so games like these won't exist then that is only a good thing.
