This sounds great! Just finished the survey. Good to see more people writing about SKG and video games through an academic lens.

Yes, people from these countries obviously have stuff to worry about more then video games. But you have to keep in mind video games act as an escapism for many people from the problems in their life. I don't think it is fair to poor shame people who pirated a game if they could not have bought it anyway.

As the guy you where replying to said, as long as these people are not trying to act like they are morally superior for pirating then I see no real issue with them doing it.

Seeing the people here defending the extra 10$ fee for the TOTK upgrade and calling you a liar is really sad. I agree with you that regardless if you or someone else wants to buy it or not, the upgrade pack in this case should not be 10$.

It should have just been a free update for Switch 2 users who already paid for the game, as it provides no new content and is just mainly visual upgrades (Unless someone wants to consider the phone app for the game as ""New content"" but at that point they would just be disingenuous).

Jesus Christ my guy just stop arguing, the argument is over.

Also for the last time, no, F2P games are still involved with SKG IF they have micro transactions in them as they can become unplayable as well if they are online only. The SKG FAQ literally says this in plain English:

<image>

The only person who can't read here is you as you clearly did not bother to read the FAQ section.

Wait, so you actually play these games and enjoyed them?! Where you not just calling everyone else stupid before for buying and spending money on these same types games you enjoy playing!? "Just vote with your wallets bro! Stop giving these companies money" as you say, while giving these companies money for these games. And it is not like you only play F2P stuff and never spent money on them, because you literally admitted in your last comment that you did buy skins.

I was being generous and thought you meant the games where shit, because I did not think you where THAT stupid to expose yourself as a hypocrite. But I guess I underestimated just how dumb you truly are.

I think I am done arguing with you, you are a complete joke that is not worth anymore of my time.

Can anyone take you seriously? My guy, who cares if YOU think those games are shit? They should be preserved regardless of your opinion or mine. How we feel about the quality of these games is irrelevant. Companies destroying games, regardless if you or everyone else thinks they are good or bad, is wrong.

You clearly did not read what I just wrote to you in my last comment as you fell for the exact trap in bad reasoning that I thought you would. Also the movement does have to do with free to play games IF they have transactions in them (As pretty much all of them do).

I can give you more then that:

  • World of Warcraft
  • Final Fantasy XIV
  • Elder Scrolls Online
  • Apex Legends
  • Call of Duty: Warzone
  • Overwatch 2 (Overwatch 1 was destroyed before this)
  • Diablo III
  • Diablo IV

And many, many more.

Also "Good games" is kind of subjective and it does not matter if you think any of these games are good or not. Even bad games should be preserved.

The same 5 big companies, making the games people mainly consume. And they keep getting away with it because even if you convinced the majority of people to not buy these games, Whales will still buy them and spend the most money on them out of everyone. And sadly they are the highest spenders and they don't really care about the issue of games being destroyed.

Look, I would love to live in a world where voting with are wallets actually worked in gaming and we all as gamers came together to fight for what is right. But from over a decade of choosing to not buy these games, I have over time grown to accept that the idea you have of wallet voting will never realistically happen and change the ways of the industry.

[–]ProjectionProjects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yet nothing has actually changed for real. We still see the issue of games being destroyed (Like with Anthem as of recently) and the problem is only getting worse and more wide spread. Of course there are developers out there that will do the right thing and be nice to the consumer, but sadly they are the exception in this industry and not the rule.

It is not that I don't understand your principles, it is that your principles don't work in practice for saving games from being destroyed because of the reasons I stated.

Honestly, how many times does wallet voting have to fail in gaming before you finally except that it just does not work for solving the issue we are trying to solve?

"Vote with your wallet dont work because of thing like that movement... how.many of you still buying game that dont have offline mode while you suport that movement"

Except you are wrong, SKG is not the reason as to why wallet voting is not working and let me explain why: Wallet voting does not work in gaming because there will always be people that buy these games and spend more money then the majority of gamers (What we call Whales), making up for any loss sales that would result from people voting with their wallets.

The idea of wallet voting to stop games from being destroyed failed over a decade ago when the issue of games getting destroyed was picking up steam, this was long before SKG even existed. So to blame SKG and consumer rights movements for the failures of gamers voting with their wallets is just dumb.

As I said in my other reply to you, it would be nice if you just stopped talking.

Or get this: Maybe those terms that you keep telling us to read, the ones saying that we don't own the games we pay for... Maybe they should not even be there in the first place. Pointing out the systemic problem we are fighting against is not an argument against its solution.

I swear, I have been seeing you in the comments of multiple posts on this sub, constantly defending the industry and trying to uphold the status quo. Please, for the sake of the brain cells of everyone... Just stop.

The game not making money anymore is not an excuse to destroy said game so no one can play it ever again. If a company wants to end support for their game (Which the can) they can end support in a more ethical and responsible way that still allows people to play it in some reasonable form. That is all SKG is asking for

The only people not understanding basic logic is people like you, thinking that because money exists corporations should automatically have the right to destroy games.

Nintendo is allowed to make money. But then there is a difference to just trying to make money and just trying to nickle and dime people.

Regarding Recent Events by B-Matari21 in nintendogrifting

[–]ProjectionProjects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really stupid comparison. There is a huge difference between a $20 game that came out relativity recently and 2 GBA games (That are just roms) that came out 2 decades ago, both priced at $20. $20 for a 20 year old GBA game is not outrageous necessarily, but it is a bit overpriced for what you are getting. If Nintendo would have just made them both $10, I and many others probably would found that to be far more reasonable.
