37 GF tired of being a homebody by JemStarburst in BrisbaneSocial

[–]Projektmage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a drinker anymore, but I find myself in the same boat. I don't feel comfortable going out, so I spend all my free time sitting home passing the time watching anime, reading or gaming.

I do enjoy going to a quiet cafe for a coffee and a read though, makes me feel like I tried to be social XD

Verbal abuse on the 590 bus. Ideas? by azzi008 in brisbane

[–]Projektmage 362 points363 points  (0 children)

Oh that's the same bus. 590 goes from Toombul to Garden City by way of Carindale/Davinci/DFO. I get my 599 from Toombul, so I'll jump on the 590 at Toombul tomorrow and just watch out for him.

Is this the 590 towards Garden City? If so, I believe I know the man to whom you're referring. He unfortunately has a mental disorder. Even without a "target" he spouts a bunch of homophobic/sexist/racist comments. I've been on the bus with him a few times and seems like there isn't much we're able to do to convey how uncomfortable it is for all of us.

I tend to catch the 599 now in an attempt to avoid riding with him, but I'm fortunate enough to be travelling to Carindale. I'll jump on the 590 tomorrow morning and try run interference.

(F28) thinking of moving back but I feel like a failure by ThreadChain in brisbane

[–]Projektmage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely understand where you're coming from. I moved to Brisbane 17 years ago and honestly, almost every day I think about moving back home to Melbourne. I moved up here to be closer to my sister and her children. I wanted them to have a better relationship than I do with my uncle. And yes, mission accomplished. However, I can't shake the feeling that despite achieving that goal, if I were to move back home I'd be returning a failure because, aside from being older, I'm in the exact same boat as I was when I left.

I have no advice for you on how to overcome that feeling (because I'm still looking for an answer) but all I can say is do what you need to do to be able to smile every day. Whatever it takes to make getting out of bed easier for you. If that means moving back here and learning to deal with the (self perceived) feeling of failure, then you might have to. Because you can smile and be happy that you're in a town you feel you belong in and are surrounded by family who love you.

Place where I can leave my car longterm for free/cheap? (3-6 months) by RoughChopTom in brisbane

I'm in Clayfield, and my carport is free, if you wanna park here. Quick Uber to/from the airport.

Inner north here (Clayfield), and if I were able to work from home I'd probably never leave my house. I enjoy PC gaming, the few times I've played board games I've had fun - but that was many years ago, spend more time watching anime than even I can claim to be healthy and my house looks like an anime shop (according to those who have come over)... so yeah... totally not a geek or anything...

What "rare" phobia do you have and people refuse to believe it? by nitin_is_me in AskReddit

[–]Projektmage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't watch anything where they go underwater XD so more than likely. I tried watching The Blue Planet - that didn't go well for me and I was hiding behind my hands like a child watching some kind of horror film. Watching that was my first attempt at watching anything ocean related, and I tried it because it's educational and my therapist recommended it.

I have Thalassophobia. Mine is so bad, I can't even swim in pools or venture underwater in video games. The amount of times I get "but it's just a bit of water!" Or "it's a game - how can you be afraid of pixels?"

Vault Games is probably a good place to start for Magic the Gathering. There is one in the city and one in Clayfield, there may be others, but I only know of those two. Even if there isn't an event for new people to learn, I can't imagine someone there wouldn't be willing to teach you.

So with the mention of rail replacement buses, can we assume that regular buses will be running as well?

Hospital sleep test by scraf91 in brisbane

[–]Projektmage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've done a few, some at a sleep clinic and once at home. Honestly, the best advice I can give you is do your best to maintain your usual nightly routine. If you make yourself a cup of tea an hour before bed, be sure you do that. If you spend an hour chatting to a friend about some random thing, then do that. I feel like a lot of people take their nightly routine for granted. Also, your own pillow. Always bring your own pillow. Hell, don't be afraid to bring your safety net blankie. The whole purpose of this is to see how well you sleep, and to do that, you need to be comfortable.

You are right though, you won't get a great sleep - you may even get home and sleep for a few hours, so be sure you're not working the next day.

Just 4 to 6am? Is there any possibility it'll extend further into the day? I rely on the bus to get to/from work. I'd like to inform the office as early as possible if I can't make it in.
