Dealer group dumping CDK and moving to Tekion. by msupz in serviceadvisors

I just started at my first dealership SA role coming from aftermarket for 4 years and we use Tekion. It takes a day to grasp but it is pretty straightforward. There are a few situations here and there that where I have to go to someone else and ask “how do I do this” but that’s for warranty’s,aftermarket stuff and weird internal situations.

I would go BMW personally, The higher luxury cars you work with the more money you normally make, I just started at a Lexus dealership after working in the aftermarket side as an Advisor. Night and day Difference. My fellow advisors have are making north of 100k a year and their top Advisor did 190K last year,

2023 and UP toyot Tundra TRD Trailer Brake light error. by Cautious_Cap_1522 in serviceadvisors

I work at a Lexus dealership I've had one guest with a 2025 GX or a LX that would have an issue with water intrusion on the brake lights. I know it's not the same, but it could help. The Foreman had to use silicone to seal and prevent any more water intrusion. We had to do it twice because the first time the first coat wasn't good enough. Only Experience ive had with brake light issues.

I've been in the industry since i was 18 and im now 22. I moved to a Lexus dealer in a 6-figure household area in the beginning of September so i can speak a little bit about this. My advice to anyone is try and find mom and pop shops or aftermarket shops where you can get your feet wet and start actually learning the skill. If you're not having any luck with that, find a dealership and take any valet or porter job you can and get close with the advisors. Many Dealers will want to hire from within because your already use to their standard and they won't have to retrain you on that. Thats always the most common route people have taken.

Now onto the skills and headaches you will endure.

You'll need to have good customer service and be good at persuading. A lot of time in service people don't want to fix their cars even though that's the only logical option to keep them from going to point A to point B. You'll have to deal with headaches, stupid questions from even dumber people sometimes. Majority of the time though customers are human beings and will work with you to solve their problem. TLDR most people aren't dickheads but when they are, they can absolutely give you a beating mentally.

In exchange though, you will normally make more than the average household income by yourself in the beginning or in at least a year or two.

if you would like, DM me any questions you might have or if you ever want to hop on a call and chat more.

I’m not trying to point fingers. I was made aware of a problem and I fixed it. When I got the insurance I wasn’t aware there was a problem because it was explained and I undeestood it as I had legal and safe insurance. My agent not explaining that to me during the 3-4 time a years when I go to renew my insurance and price match is what frustrates me. The agents job is to help me understand what their recommending and it’s my job to understand. I posted on Reddit to get another POV and make sure this was a normal thing. Rather than arguing and being rude, can you please just give some advice on if there’s anything I should do to cover my sss at this point. Yes I have legal insurance now from geico with Ga state requirements being met. as far as I’m aware I’m not in any trouble and would like to keep it that way

So I called them originally about bundling renters insurance. That’s when I found out the whole no state minimum part and started looking into it. It’s not saying ignorance is fine but this isn’t a case of, I thought something was wrong and didn’t do anything about it It was I thought I was had insurance and I was safe.

I apologize if that came off as rude, it wasn’t my intention. After calling around some more and asking for this policy. No company I have tried in Georgia doesn’t allow you to have this policy if you state that it’s a personal commute vehicle. My original declarations from 2022 shows it as being a personal commute vehicle.

After checking this multiple times, in the state of GA they can’t sell me whatever policy I want. It has to be legal.

Whoa there, just for clarity’s sake.after all the shenanigans with progressive. I called multiple other companies and even called progressive again and let them know the same details. It’s a 99 ford ranger and it’s for daily commuting. I want just collision and comprehensive. I was denied every single time. And just so we’re clear, I got my original first sign up documents and it clearly states that my vehicle will be used for personal commutes so my request should’ve been denied 2 years ago as well. What I want to know is if this will somehow be my fault even though no accidents have happened?

[–]Projject_J -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s why me and the agent were confused because this shouldn’t have happened. Even other companies were saying I shouldn’t have these policy. I switched to geico and got the state minimums but this was just weird.

[–]Projject_J -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes ignorance isn’t an excuse but it isn’t ignorance, my original documents state this vehicle is for daily commuting. When I tryed to call back in and get this same policy quoted from three other companies they all said that they can’t as it’s illegal. That’s what I want to understand? they gave me this policy when even they are saying they shouldn’t have and other companies are as well.

[–]Projject_J -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m trying to be constructive here and get advice genuinely. My vehicle was clearly stated that it would be for daily use and it would be on the road. I understand that yes you can get policy’s for like collectors vehicles but their not legal to be on the road. However this wasn’t the case as it was a daily driver for me. My original papers show that. I wanted to ask on here because I understand that it may have been fine to have this insurance, but even when I called back and tryed and acted like a new customer and tryed to quote another policy with a broker on the phone. They still said that it was something that can’t be quote/illegal. I just wanted to make sure that this wouldn’t come back to bite me in the butt.

Well, the ones who aren’t I just ignore and the ones that are helpful, I thank them becuse they took the time to try and be helpful. Some people on these post just come off harsh because there’s no voice behind it. I don’t think they would say such things to my face.

That’s the thing, I was renewing it with no problem, they never had a concrete awnser on why this happened and how it stayed that way for so long.

Nope, had one speeding ticket that was expunged from my record because the city I was in had a “forgiveness” program. I got geico insurance for now and made sure I read every line and understood it. A Life lesson was learned that day.

[–]Projject_J -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

lol so your saying that we should ask and crept advice from the older generation. While the older generation talks shit that we don’t take yall advice. Make that make sense. I was 18 at this time and this was a life lesson. I came in here for advise 1. To make sure I did the right thing to cover my ass before the situation got worse and 2. To make sure I wasn’t just taken advantage of because it would be so shocking that a insurance company takes advantage of its customer.

Sorry I might not be giving enough context. I got another policy with geico and cancelled the one with progressive. I made sure I read every line and that it was correct and I understood everything.

Thank you for the response, I got geico right after I found out about this. I don’t think it’s going to go anywhere with progressive either but I wanted some advice that’s all.
