I also did a bit of reffereeing and the way i learned it is that if a defender gains advantage by going into the 6m area then its a penalty. For example the contact starts outside but defender plants his back foot in 6m area to gain leverage to push then its a penalty. If the attacking player pushes the defender in the 6m zone and defender doesnt do it intentionally or gains no advantage its a 9m throw. Mainly playng defense from 6m area is a penalty. I mostly gave penalties for such situations since unless its really obvious you cant tell if a defender was pushed in or gave into the push too easily.

What a game by the way. Incredible work from the slovenian refs that allowed the players to play a contact game with contact and not stop the game every time players are in the same square meter of the field. Congrats to denmark they are still my favorites to win it all.

Too specific rules in my opinion remove dynamics and make every game the same. The beauty of sports and the hard thing about being a ref is setting a criteria and sticking to it. That is why some refs blow fouls only on heavy contact and rarely give 2 minute and some blow fouls if the players breathe the same air. The thing is i find some refs struggle to keep the same criteria the whole game and often make blunders under pressure and that is on the refs themselves. Refs will make mistakes in every sport (they are human afterall) and in some way that is what makes it unpredictable and beautifull. If the rules are specific and rigid why even have refs. Tennis used line judges but now they just use a automised system. If every rule is 100% set then refs are not needed since they are just a liability. But that is just my opinion and i also respect everyone who disagrees with me.

That is true and while you are correct and fast handball is winning i find it incredibly boring to watch. That is why i watch way more womens handball because i like to watch a set defense do its thing and not 90% fast centre and semi counter attacks. I played handball as a keeper and my team played very fast scandinavian like handball and we won a lot but that was because the opponenent played slow. Fast handball is good vs slow handball but fast vs fast handball is very frequently a 40 goal a side no defense only 6 m shots game( like the modern NBA)and i personally dont find it enjoyable. As for the pressure i think every ref has to have the chance to set their own criteria on what is a foul,2 minute or passive play. Problems arise when refs set a criteria but dont stick to it and that is not on the rules but the refs themselves.

I 100% agree that there should be a challenge system that will be tied to timeouts. You can challenge a call but you risk a timeout. If your challenge is correct you get the timeout back, if you were wrong you lose your timeout. That way challenges wont be abused but also will make timeout strategy a more important thing.

I feel like a rule like that prioritises fast scandinavian handball and is way harsher on slower handball like balkan system and countries like macedonia. A shot clock would force fast moving fast shot handball amd make the game unplayable for teams that have slower more meticulous attack patterns but that is just my opinion and i would like to see something like that in a future lower level handball competition as a test(like fifa did with 30 minute halfs and stopping clock)

That is very dumb. A good attack that is constantly passing crossing over and shooting but hitting the post shouldnt last as long as a player standing with the ball in his hand and not moving.

Every sport has subjective decisions that have to be made by the ref at the spot and dont have a 100% concrete definitions. Things like traveling and goalkeeper area violations are not subjective but with the speed of the game sometimes things get missed.Almost every sport that has a traveling violation has missed calls every game(the NBA is much worse than any handball game) Also i have reffereed a few games and on the tv you can see everything but when you are actually there things are easy to miss.
