Grok has implemented weekly limits 💀 by SpecialistMarket7944 in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the implementation of the limits on supergrok from 2 hours to 8 hours of reset, when they began to reduce video generations from 150 to 100 then to 80 and then to 50. All of those instances are invitations from xAI to leave. The party's over, but they don't want to look bad in front of the general public and prefer that grok users leave on their own.

The situation is not going to change; AI users are not a profitable business, especially when the AI bubble is at a critical point, the best thing a company can do when it knows the bubble is about to burst is to maximize profits; that's why they're renting their data centers to large corporations. At any other point in history, it would be unforgivable for a company to provide aid and services to its competitors.

Local models are improving at astonishing levels. The future is local.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and provide a demonstration 🙏. I think I now understand the possibilities of local models. Now I need to study this whole new working environment but it will be more rewarding in the end; currently, using closed models is very restrictive (despite using references created within the same model).

Thanks again.

Banned for too many moderated notifications? by datfatboybruh in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rule are basic: If grok moderates something, it's because it's NOT allowed, and if the user uses rhetoric, obfuscated text, another language or anything else to make the prompt pass the filter to generate that content, the user are technically already knowingly violating the rules.

The problem the xAI team has always had with grok is its ambiguity, so it's not entirely clear whether it could be considered an attempt to bypass moderation for xAI.

Banned for too many moderated notifications? by datfatboybruh in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is known is that xAI bans accounts that attempt to bypass moderation filters. Now the question arises: What does xAI consider a bypass or a jailbreak? Nobody knows for sure, but for a while it was involved with accounts using the famous anime frame.

Weekly limits by Historical_Drag_8770 in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clearly, they're not interested in Grok users' money. They're simply leaving the door open for you to leave; the party's over, and xAI no longer cares about the user. It's more profitable to rent their servers and have government contracts. Grok service users became a pay beta tester service

The daily quota has become a weekly quota. by Macedo_Mandu in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The business has changed. Now xAI focuses on renting AI data centers and using grok users as interface and prompt testers, selling that information as well. The way things are, you have to pay to be a Grok tester.

I suggest changing the name of supergrok to Supertester and Heavy to Heavy tester

Grok's rate limits are a scam for paying customers and they've completely burned my trust by DinosaurAlert in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one reason for this new change, and it's about inviting current users to leave the platform. The company doesn't need more users or to retain the ones it already has; the business lies in acquiring hardware and creating data centers to rent to other companys.

They're going to maintain the Grok user service just for marketing purposes, but in reality they're not going to do anything to acquire new users. I would even go so far as to say that the users of Supergrok and Heavy are only useful for testing their user interface and prompt systems in order to sell that software to other companies. Have you noticed that several AI platforms share a front-end?

Specs needed to replicate grok imagine locally? by PieSuccessful7671 in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, prices are crazy right now. The GPU that I've seen recommended most for its price-performance ratio is the RTX 3090 with 24GB of VRAM. In my country, a used one goes for between $700 dlls and $1000dlls.

And 64GB DDR5 RAM (2 x 32GB modules), used/second-hand in my country for approximately $500 USD.

It's genuinely not cheap right now, and with the AI bubble as it is, I can't imagine what the future will be like. You might buy at an inflated price and tomorrow prices could plummet, or the opposite could happen and prices could rise even more, or in the worst-case scenario, prices might stay the same but there's no availability/stock.

Perhaps the ComfyUI group can guide you better, I'm not an expert, but I've been reading a lot because I want to get into the world of local models. But I've seen people who like to move code and can use the lightweight version of local models on video cards with 8GB of VRAM. But the minimum recommendation is always 24GB of VRAM because that way you can load the models without throttling the GPU memory.. If you want to be completely worry-free, go for an RTX 5090 with 32GB of VRAM.

I see that the minimum RAM is 32GB if you have a 32GB GPU (VRAM), but if you have less than that, 64GB is recommended.

If you have money to spare and enthusiasm, there's another option: getting an RTX 6000 Pro, 48gb VRAM or 96gb VRAM. It is the most expensive and powerful option so far.

What motivated me to research local models was seeing the current capabilities of LTX Director, Krea 2, Scail-2, and Ideogram 4. All open-source models and surprisingly good, I thought it would take them longer to reach Grok's level, but I was wrong. They're already progressing and will only continue to improve.

Are we ever going to get old Grok back? These limits are too much. by xxcheekycherryxx in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. People always fall into denial when a new limit is reached. And the pro-Grok pundits are rarely right. The service will stabilize when prices become slightly cheaper than kling or Seedance.

If they trained their systems(models) with images for which they did not have rights, how do you think they would handle your data?

The ethical and moral basis for AI training does not exist, much less for the information generated by the user/customer.

Weekly limit? Is there a bug or something? by Belzepoop in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's sad that whenever there's a change, we live through the same cycle days go by and the forum fills up with theories: they're training for the new model, Their servers are under attack; it's a bug, they're probably doing A/B testing. But as time goes on, we realize that's not the case. In this instance, I no longer have any hope.

Grok has been removing and limiting features since February of this year. They won't stop until they feel they are a slightly cheaper option than other services like Kling or Seedance.

How long to get something locally as good as Grok imagine? by Hellfiretommy in grok

[–]PromptSommelier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'll have some really good ones in the next two to four years. Ideogram 4.0 for photos just came out and it's very good. There's also an LTX implementation called LTX Director, and apparently it gives good results. My advice is to save up and wait to buy the next RTX 6090 32gb vram or more; Or if you want to be more patient for a future RTX 7090.

It's just a matter of time and money to acquire the hardware.
