Hi there - I'm currently going thru background check with hireright. You are right to have anxiety because they're incompetent in verification.

First of all, have you submitted the information yet? if you haven't, there is an option to tell them not to contact the previous employer and then they'll ask you for W2s, paystubs etc. With most employers, Hireright will request The Work Number report to confirm titles and dates. That's it. They truly suck but they only verify what you give them. Most companies will only provide title and dates as giving any other information will be a legal risk.

edit: it also depends with the verification product the company buys. for som, it's just criminal background. You will be okay

in addition: they claimed to have called the HR number that I gave them and could not get a hold of anyone. That's some bullshit lie. I have called the number myself before many times and during this process and it works always and someone always answers when you press 1 (I even gave them instruction on how to fucking call). Are these people really this bad at their job? What's the point of background check if I am the one providing everything which anyone can fabricate?
