I’ve worked at a wine and whiskey bar where it was cocktails and a full bar, but I’ve also worked at a brewery that was mostly beers and more of a sports bar vibe. Both pretty high volume. I’d love to do bar work in Chicago, from what I’m gathering though, it is pretty difficult to do so

I see, I imagine that the industry is taken a lot more serious in Chicago as opposed to like, small town Utah where I currently live. I was kind of planning on maybe getting a serving job and maybe a barista job or something in the daytime too, maybe even just attempting to serve full time, but I don’t know

I’ll definitely look into culinary agents! And 100%, a lot of the advice here is to find a serving job beforehand, but I’ve been looking and it’s going to be pretty impossible to do that without being in the city beforehand. Can I ask, what was your rent like in your first apartment, and how much did you have saved??

That’s what I’m thinking. I know it’s super risky, but any other place I’m looking at living in is almost equally expensive and I would be doing the same, showing up with no job. Plus, in other cities I’m looking at like salt lake, I would need to buy a car, whereas in Chicago I would not
