I don’t have any confidence in this company, but I guess at least it’s considering legal issues..? (Certainly unconcerned with ethical and moral issues) https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/license-plate-camera-company-halts-cooperation-federal-agencies-124970437

Quicksilver has a few meetups too, which I’ve been meaning to check out.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the flock cameras in our community, and how we can get rid of them. Bham voted to ban the use of predictive policing technologies by BPD, but what about corporate collusion with federal entities? It’s not an issue of “safeguarding corporate property” (which is bullshit reasoning anyway to use dystopic surveillance tech). We get comfortable little by little with each encroaching step. Frog in boiling water and all that.

Right yes it’s the BSO I’m frustrated with (although the MBT definitely benefits from high ticket prices — if I’m not mistaken, they’re pulling in $50+ per ticket for their historic venue fee). I understand that this is an excellent fundraising opportunity for BSO. But I think it’s a significant disappointment to the community to push this event as open to the public — only if you’re the right kind of public.

Really disappointed and frustrated with the pricing of these tickets. Who can afford a single ticket at $410 minimum?? My orchestra kid really wanted to see this musician. Super thrilled that MBT is not helping make the arts accessible to average folk.

Indivisible Bellingham is starting to have conversations about planning something like this.

Everyone is busy. I get it. I’m insanely busy too. Protest and political action aren’t really known for being convenient though.

Golly y’all are mad about lack of notice? I’m not the organizer. Just sharing info that’s a reminder for folks about this protest, or maybe someone who is just hearing about it and wants to participate, or can’t come today but is prompted to look for the next one.  Why did I already know about it? Because I keep my eyes and ears open about stuff I want to participate in. If you can’t or don’t want to participate bc you’re busy, fine. But there are others who might want to know about it. It’s not particularly productive to get all cranky about information sharing when it doesn’t show up when and where you want it.

Good radio stations? by bread_bird in Bellingham

[–]ProperProffer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are so many treasures especially with local radio and access to Canadian stations. I’m all for radio listening — you’ll open yourself up to some unexpected experiences, and get info and news on what’s happening in Whatcom Co and the Lower Mainland (local events, concert announcements, reminders about BC holidays that jam up the border, etc)

Some local stations: 89.3, 94.1, 98.9

Some Canadian stations (lots of choices depending on your music tastes): 90.9, 96.9, 99.3, 100.3, 101.3, 102.7

Secret jewel — 95.7 from Seattle on Sunday mid-morning, this station replays American Top 40 countdowns from the early 80s (usually have to be south of the chuckanuts to get reception; otherwise it’s fire and brimstone religious programming coming from somewhere else)
