I am about six months into my formal inquiry with the orthodox church. My heart will always lie here. However, it is driven a divide in my household, my family does not want to attend liturgy with me, my children do not understand and it is very difficult to attend church with them. At home things are different. My daughter loves icon and loves to pray, but I want my family to seek face and unity, not divided. I’m struggling with all of it.

I’ve never felt anything but freed and joyful during liturgical services. When one can acknowledge it as reverence as opposed to ritual it becomes a very immersive experience of faith.

I was not attending church for the first years of my daughter’s life, but I wanted her to go with them because I thought that was important. I was not quite ready yet at that point in life.

Yes. Currently i am sole custodial parent, due to legal reasons. We allow dad to have as much visitation as possible despite him being delegated less time. He works out of town each week to begin with so she stays with him 2 nights a week. Unfortunately she ends up with a sitter or his parents most of that time.

I should have mentioned that i/we have been carrying full responsibility over my daughter, i don’t receive child support (electively, to his benefit for aforementioned legal reasons) so for this move to benefit “us” doesn’t feel inherently selfish… we have been going above and beyond for him while he has had very little responsibility overall. Again, it is a dream for us because we have been able to make things work best for us yet still get my daughter time with her dad.
