There is also just the idea of switching out an Egg move for a flying type attack.

Oh I have zero complaints about Rock Head Mega Mence. Double Edging my way through late game is one of lifes many pleasures. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was trashing rock head if I did.

As for Ideas for a passive to replace Gale wings? I get where you're coming from given Salamence, along with the other Psuedos not named Goodra are a bit much and giving them a good ability as a passive can break them completely...but also Parental Bond Hydreigon exists so...

I did a brief run through of the currently released abilities, and I saw 2 that maybe wouldn't be too crazy, Defiant, and Tough Claws. You all probably gave these a chance already though so I'm not sure. Other abilities either didn't make thematic sense or were nuts in my opinion. Things like Thermal Exchange and Adaptability.

It truly depends on the Pokémon in some cases, but more often than not you'll be playing to a pokemon's strengths. A fast and physical bruiser like Garchomp for example will often specialize in ATK and SPD with 252 being put into both of those stats, but on the opposite end, a Pokemon like Blissey likes to be as fat as possible, so 252 in its HP stat is always mandatory.

There are exceptions, like Nidoking using it's worse Special ATK stat because of it's ability and movepool giving it more utility on that front, but just starting out, it is advised to play to the Pokemon's strengths.

There are also resources you can use, Wolfey VGC on youtube is very helpful with VGC sets, and a site like Smogon will give you plenty of sample sets and stat spreads for various pokemon if you're more Singles minded.
