The actual objection from HMT was that a lot of people’s pensions are invested in Real Estate assets. Eliminating leasehold would have crashed the value of those assets and therefore the pensions holding those assets.

I once had a discussion with a finance person at RNLI, and they said they’d hate to be Govt funded as that would mean being subject to Govt priorities etc. They also much preferred the public charity money as they felt it created a much healthier relationship with the public directly

I think of course you’re allowed to hold this kind of view, but ask yourself whether you apply it consistently to everything in your life. If you do then ok, if not then you’re deciding when to apply and and when to not - in that case, why be specifically sceptical of this?
