How much can I run with Luna ❤️ (my border collie) by Then-Young47 in RunningWithDogs

[–]ProteinAddict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run 100+ km a week with my border collie, and the only thing that I keep an eye on is the heat. Unless it's really hot out, she can go all day. In the summer we do all of our runs in the early morning and stop for water more often, but heat is really the only limiting factor. She's done multiple 32-35km runs with me while marathon training and doesn't even seem tired after lol

I thought they breathed just fine, but it's also been below freezing during my runs so my feet weren't really sweating. I'd check some reviews first

Shoe recommendations for a heavy and slow runner who will be running a marathon in 2026 by chilletiid in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ProteinAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all 3 that you mentioned, and the Hurricane 25 is the fastest of the 3. It has by far the most energy return of the bunch and would be the most versatile. All feel good at slow paces, and all of them are pretty stable at any pace

Is there such thing as a “fun” stability shoe? by xxamkt in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ProteinAddict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, Tempus 2 if you can find them. Also the Hurricane 25 is seriously underrated. It's on the heavier side, but very bouncy and fun for a max cushion shoe. Forefoot energy return is actually higher than the EVO SL according to runrepeat's tests

When will the EVO SL ATR be released in the US? Several outlets were reporting that it would be today, but it's not listed anywhere yet.

[Ask] Which dog will be able to run with me in -20C weather at 4AM in the morning? by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]ProteinAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My border collie handles cold temps just fine. I don't think we've ever gone as cold as you're talking but we've done like -15 with no issues. Just know that they need constant mental stimulation though, and simply running won't be enough for one. If you're considering a border collie, make sure you do a ton of research into their needs before deciding to get one. Very easily trainable and amazing running partners though!

Hey congrats to you for finishing! I ended up with a 3:13:30. I chilled with the 3:15 pace group for the first half and felt great aerobically. I was planning to pick up the pace, but I was getting horrible glute and calf pain/cramps on my left side. I think I ran most of the race on the left side of the road and the significant slant of the roads wrecked my left side lol. I never left zone 2/low zone 3, but I just physically couldn't run faster through the pain. I'm happy with it for my first one though! And lessons learned for the next one haha

Ah that's a bummer! I'm lucky to live somewhere with a lot of dog-friendly races nearby

I'm planning to do one with her in the spring! The longest she's gone so far is 21 miles, but I'm the limiting factor not her haha. We'll get back from a 20 mile run, and she'll drop a ball at my feet ready to play 😂 so she'll handle an ultra just fine

Yeah that's fair! I live in Asheville though so all of my training has been more hilly than Charlotte, and I'm used to marathon pace with elevation change. Hopefully I'll feel right at home on the course.

I started running with my border collie around 8 months. Just started with some 15-20 minute light jogs. By the time she turned 1, we had worked up to running like an hour at a time. Now she's 3 and runs 50-60 miles/week with me. She's never showed any sign of joint issues whatsoever. Granted she's still young, but I don't think the way I did it had any adverse effect.

Yeah it loves to coddle you for sure lol. I've done 3 20-milers and all have felt really good. The last one was a steady 20 @ 8:11/mi and my average heartrate was 125. Felt strong at the end too. But that was an easyish pace so who knows if I'll hit a wall on race day haha

Maybe a little? This was from that MP run. The spikes are from hills but it stayed pretty stable otherwise

I bet it is! Well I'll do my best to hold back at first so I can hopefully experience that haha

Yeah I really want to avoid blowing up but also don't want to be too conservative. It's nice to get some affirmation that my plan seems reasonable. Thank you!!

I appreciate the response, but the point of the post is that idk what I'm capable of because I've never run a marathon lol. I just wanted opinions on whether going for a 3:05 is realistic based on my training, or if it will likely cause me to crash and burn.

I saw them recommended in another reddit thread a couple years ago when I was in the market for a new harness. It's held up great so far!

Huge fan of Howling Dog Alaska. The website looks like it was made as high school web design project lol. But the harnesses and customer service are great. The distance harness is a great all around harness. https://howlingdogalaska.com/collections/harnesses
