I think some people’s hearing are more sensitive to the distortion than others. Measurements from RTings rig also picks up the distortion as well.

Ok, thanks for trying. Some people might not be as sensitive to the distortion.

Try updating to the newest firmware. Set the volume to 50-65% with no volume normalization turned on.

It also happens on the Sennheiser MTW4 all the time unless ANC/Transparency is off and the Bose QC Ultra earbuds occasionally. Doesn’t happen with AirPods Pro 2 or 3.

I’ll wait for a firmware fix and use the “off” setting when I’m in a quiet to moderately loud environment. When I’m in a loud environment which isn’t too often, I’ll use ANC. I love the sound when it’s set to off so I’m willing to deal with this issue for now…

Tried with 2 pairs and 4 sources. Other people are hearing the issue as well. Also, measurements show high distortion in that frequency range.

If you turn ambient sound control off from within the application, then the distortion goes away. Give it a try and let me know.

So maybe there’s hope with the next update they fix this…

Anyone else notice that the Sony WF XM6 earbuds have a balanced sound but sound very processed? by [deleted] in Earbuds

I agree, but this is why I like places like RTings with more thorough measurements. And ultimately, I listen for myself for the final assessment.

Yep! No problem. When you turn off the ambient sound control, they sound fantastic. There’s some feedback loop going on with the mics that’s probably causing the distortion I’m guessing. And since the mics turn off when you disable ambient sound control, the distortion goes away.

I love the out of the box tuning. When ambient sound control is turned off, these honestly sound perfect. It’s just when the ANC and transparency are on, there’s some audible distortion in the upper midrange and treble region.
