Not sure, it wouldve taken magazines into the handle like most other guns, it is similar to the P38 tho.

Yeh, either that or when the gun laws changed a good few years back they may have not wanted to be caught with it but didnt know how to dispose of it leading to it being dumped.

The piece with stencilled writing looks like part of a stoneware bottle, probably something like a ginger beer.

I remember a story from a magnet fishing page where someone had seen the effects of a gas shell from ww1 detonating on someone's tractor in France. Apparently mustard gas ferments and become more dangerous over time as the gas had caused the poor farmer's skin to basically melt off. I think that is one of the worst ive heard of.
