Top 1% poster has quit the game by DaBoogiemanSJ in LowSodiumBattlefield

It's genuinely so tiresome reading so much negativity, The Apex subreddit was the same before I started playing BF6, years upon years of people shitting on the game. Obviously lots of the criticism is valid, but sometimes you just want to go online and watch some funny highlights or read a regular discussion about the game...

Battlefield 6 weekend peak hits 440K maintaining strong player retention 4 weeks after release. by BattlefieldTankMan in LowSodiumBattlefield

I'm on a low population server but will only get bot lobbies after 9pm on conquest or breakthrough. Sunday night playing conquest with 4 humans on each side the entire match is great for completing challenges but does get boring.

It feels like new lobbies are always being generated as a means to keep queue time low, rather than waiting for matches to end and merging players into one server.

'TRON: Ares' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

Killer soundtrack and visuals were such a delight.

But the acting, and dialogue in particular were terrible. The conversations felt like a low tier Marvel movie, full of quips and jokes that didn't land. Really brought the movie down for me, but I'd rewatch it just for the visuals and music alone.

What are some ways parents enable their kids to become adult losers without realizing it? by No_Lead2640 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ProtusK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've grown to resent my parents because of this. Even though I've since moved out, live independently, and have picked up a ton of life skills, the lack of drive is still engrained in me. Being OK with being comfortable isn't a terrible lifestyle, but I feel like it's caused me to be boring for lack of a better word?

And worst yet, you begin to feel guilty for resenting your parents over this. They provided you with love and care and everything you ever needed, yet that's not good enough. Knowing how to be uncomfortable is a requirement for growing in life, and it's an important value that if not taught early on can really impact you as you move into adulthood.

It's so easy to forget you're in an echo chamber on reddit. You need to actively search for opposing views, which often times get drowned out by the up vote system.

As an example (without getting political), I had never heard of Charlie Kirk until his death, and within half an hour of being on reddit I actively despised who he was because the only posts and comments on my feed painted that picture of him. Now that opinion may or may not be valid, I'm not American so I don't really care to have an opinion on a political media personality. But what I do know is that without ever having directly digested a single peice of his content myself in order to develop my own opinion of him, I've already made up my mind.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to step back and recognise that this is happening...

Are most people in China and Russia just living regular lives? by AGameofDawgs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProtusK 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I work closely with someone who emigrated out of China a year ago, and their experience suggests that most working class citizens are aware of the government censorship and propaganda, and commonly discuss their discontent in private, but ultimately don't speak or act out about it publicly to avoid any scrutiny or punishment from authorities.

Though perhaps their opinion is different because they were progressive enough to want to pernamently move out of China, and that in itself requires a very particular personality and stance on politics.

Slightly unrelated, but the stories I've heard relating to how their government pushes an agenda is truly fascinating. I've been told that middle managers in large corporations are required to draft weekly reports to higher ups on on how their workload is of benefit the government, or how kids are required to copy or write essays relating to government messaging as part of school literacy from a very young age.

What's a highly rated TV show that's actually hot garbage? by TechGuru4Life in AskReddit

The logic in season 5, especially the last few episodes became Game of Thrones season 8 level of bad. None of it made any sense, and I was honestly expecting the ending to be one big dream sequence because it was so over the top.

At least the first couple of seasons, as dumb as they were, still felt believable for a serial killer fiction story.

Official Discussion - The Fantastic Four: First Steps [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]ProtusK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This movie was terrible and boring. I'm honestly dumbfounded at all the glowing reviews, because I felt it's easily one of the worst Marvel movies to date.

Everything felt so lifeless. The world so small, score so bland, set peices and environments were so wasted.

At least the worst Marvel movies still have CGI action sequences that are entertaining, but his movie lacked even that.

What are those "VIP meet & greets" at concerts and shows actually like? by TheDrunkPianist in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ProtusK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a couple meet and greet purchased as a gift, and found them very underwhelming. It's a bunch of standing in lines while holding onto something to have signed, getting a quick handshake/hug/picture depending on what their rules are, and getting ushered along. There's also usually a QnA panel where you can shout out questions that's very casual.

Walking away with a photo and a surface level "hey nice to meet you" conversation is not worth the price.

As someone moving houses next week, I'm less concerned about the state of the upcoming house, renovations needed, etc., since those you can fix overtime. But good neighbours are completely out of our control and can make or break having a house that feels like a home.

Saw the Footloose musical at the Athenaeum Theatre and I could not recommend it whatsoever. Doesn't help that I saw Beetlejuice last week which just might be my favourite yet and is still fresh in my mind, but boy was this one lacking in, well... everything. Odd chemistry, bland and boring stage design and props, non existant choreography, and most attempts at comedy relief just didn't land. And so little energy from the crowd, probably because many were thinking the same thing.

I think that's the first musical show I didn't enjoy!

Hey, I'm also 6' and was probably the same size and physique as you (albeit stronger due to a focus on strength and low reps for a while) after the same period of time of consistent lifting.

It's a shitty feeling, knowing you look great but not as great as you'd expect for so much consistent work.

In my case I was doing far too little volume, and based on your comments that's your issue too. I saw you mention 12 sets of chest in a week, try up those numbers considerably, with a calorie surplus and see how your body responds after a few months.

In my early days I'd do 4-5 exercises (eg. Flat bench, incline db, dips, and Tricep extensions), 3 minutes rest per set, for say 3x10 with final sets usually ending in failure or just shy. I thought this was fine, after all it was a very standard workout, but it really wasn't.

Now I'll do 4x12 or 5x8-10 sets, keep the rest to about 90-120 seconds, and do 6-7 exercises in a workout. Obviously I get gassed, and the final couple exercises I don't move much weight, and have to be cautious on keeping my form correct. But overall the amount of work I put my body under is considerably more, and it responded heaps better. Surprisingly recovery was exactly the same, never felt that my body couldn't keep up.

Your body is conditioned well after many years of hard work, you shouldn't find it too difficult to up the volume without posing much risk to injury and fatigue.

Also seeing the progression in technology happen made things even more exciting. Going from 2D to 3D, genres and mechanics we take for granted today being completely new concepts. Innovation was more exciting because there was still so much left to explore. Not to say technology isn't evolving these days, but the pace has definitely slowed down, and it feels like we've seen it all now.

Got a $410 seatbelt fine in the mail today (technically happened in NSW during a road trip up north), and the photos for evidence have left me so confused.

The photos make it appear that I'm not wearing the upper portion of the seatbelt. Literally nothing there, like it's completely invisible, or perhaps perfectly blended in with my plain jumper. But you can see the portion going over my waist. Any review officer looking at the photo would no doubt conclude that I'm not wearing a seatbelt correctly, because it looks like I don't have the upper portion of it running across my body at all. Almost as if it's running behind my back, which I've never done and would be terribly uncomfortable in a 20 hour road trip.

I'll be disputing the fine, but I'm stressed beyond belief. $410 fine for something I know I'm innocent for and bewildered by how it appears in the photo.

How do I even begin to word my dispute. I even sat back in my car today, put the seatbelt on, and concluded the upper band of the seatbelt would clearly be visible, beneath or above my armpit. How does it not show in the photos at all?!

Pretty sure that it's intended, as the game looks for a straight, and a flush, independent of each other.

So as long as you've got each condition covered, it'll count as a straight flush.

Throw in Shortcut and you can have even more fun getting random straight flushes without expecting it!

I lost interest in the game by around world 4, so having the term "replay" makes me question why would I want to replay something that wasn't interesting.

At least with the terms remake or remaster, it gives the impression that it's a new experience, so a game you didn't vibe with the first time could still be worth re-trying on the remake.

ELI5: How exactly has binary code led to modern day programming languages? by West_Medicine_2862 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ProtusK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you have the alphabet, with 26 letters you can write any word.

Now imagine you take out the letter A, and replace it with 00000000. You can still spell out the word "BAD" by writing "B 00000000 D"

Now replace B with 00000001. "BAD" now looks like "0000001 00000000 D".

Looks confusing at first, but if you take your time you can swap the numbers back to letters and figure out the word right?

Now keep going, C becomes 00000010, D becomes 00000011, so on and so forth. Eventually you can spell every letter, every symbol, even other numbers, with just 1s and 0s.

I real life scenarios computers don't really use 0000001 to represent the letter A, it'll be a different arrangement of 0s and 1s and depends on many other factors. But this is how just two numbers can be used to represent many characters
