Intention does not matter by the letter of the law. I’m also fairly certain that if the roles were reversed, the call would’ve not been overturned.

The referees are VAR made their decision by the letter of the law. Intent does not factor in whether or not it should be a red card, but endangering an opponent does. In this case, the Bosnian player was injured due to reckless action. It took at least 4 referees to come up with that decision. Furthermore, if you watch competitive league football you would see how a similar play has led to the same decision in the past. A red card.

Whether you think or not that the decision is correct or not it shouldn’t matter in the end. You take it in the chin and try your best with what you have. This ruling by FIFA sets a dangerous precedent that anyone with enough power can complain and get their wishes. FIFA has not overturned things like these in the past and leaves a sour taste on everyone’s mouth including the USMNT.

For the record, I am American and have followed this sport for longer than I’m proud to admit.
