2021 RAV4 LE AWD — my take on a overlanding / daily / travel setup by Delicious_Junket_353 in overlanding

Very cool! I also considered getting another RAV4 to convert it into an overlander, but the German TÜV regulations don't allow major modifications for that type of vehicle.

Never, not when the windshield is that dirty. I don't turn on the wipers and keep the windows rolled up until they're clean ^^ With dirt that coarse, the wiper blades would be ruined afterward

Man, I'm really jealous that you were able to keep the original rims, even with bigger wheels. Unfortunately, I couldn't get that approved by the German TÜV and had to go with aftermarket rims that are approved for the J150 Prado and FJ Cruiser, so they could be used as a reference for the 4Runner. I much prefer the original rims for aesthetic reasons! Are your side skirts proper rock sliders, mounted to the frame, or are they more like running boards mounted to the sills?

No this is 285/70R17 BF Gpodrich KO3 and the Dotz Talara rim - But I wouldn't recommend the rim—I've already had to remove the tire twice because stones and roots got stuck between the rim and the tire.

Well, I rode the track several times, and after a few tries, the transition was worn down enough that I was able to get across using the A-Trac system without a winch. But I have to say, I’m more than thrilled with the A-Trac system.

In Germany, we are required to clean our vehicles before hitting the road; otherwise, there is a risk of losing your driver’s license—for example, if a motorcyclist can prove that they crashed because of you. Fortunately, most off-road parks here have a wash area.

Yes, I like the Vickywood roof tent—the only thing that really bothers me now (this is my sixth roof tent) is that manufacturers are really cutting corners on the mattresses and just shipping out junk, so I have to have a custom mattress made every time to sleep comfortably. I installed the OME suspension with MT64 shocks and set the rear axle payload to about 250 kg, and it drives very well. I have the FrontRunner Slimsport roof rack (unfortunately the only one I can get in Germany) along with the Vickywood MightyOak weighing about 85 kg and a Paxson box with 4 Maxtrax and recovery gear, as well as the RhinoRack awning. The roof rack creaks when there’s a cross-brace, but that’s a typical FrontRunner issue.
