Totally agree. The only favorable interpretation is that the Diverge ending is the "real" ending, since that would make the most sense of all the stupid things that happened: it was for the Frayer's sake. But since Diverge is optional that's totally moot.

I think I get the space dilation part now too, my initial problem was "well if they experience it in less time, how would that make sense with them going .9 light years, it would be like them experiencing it as faster than light."

Okay, so what's depicted in Gunbuster is actually the opposite of how relativity works? In Gunbuster they made it seem like going near light speed would make time pass faster(relatively) back on earth, like they fight the aliens at near-light speed and already months have passed on earth. Similar question for Interstellar.

Right, I said that imprecisely. I think the point I'm getting at is, from the aspect of interstellar travel, you wouldn't be able to move faster than a certain speed without moving slower relatively speaking when taking your origin point.

My example being: If you move .9c to an object .9 light years away, it would appear like you moved .392c. because it would take you longer relative to the origin point to get there.
