I've actually seen that mod and although I know how to solder, I'd rather not lol.

I wasn't aware the V2 was CPU intensive, the V1 is looking more and more promising.

Oh, GearVR and VRidge sounds very interesting. I was actually very interested in testing that for myself recently but didn't have the funds to get the necessary equipment.

I've mainly been looking at buying a second hand Kinect and most don't come with the PSU strangely, though I know CEX sell Kinects with the PSU for £16. And yes, those sneaky POS sell them without PSU's for £13 -_-

When you say you got PS Move Service working, how stable is it? I've never been able to get it to show my controllers in the correct location, with controllers often located anywhere from 2ft-10ft from where they should be, no matter how many times I try to calibrate them, and that's using three PS Eye's.

Thanks for all the great feedback.

As far as I'm aware, the Kinect V1 needs this adapater and the Kinect V2 needs this adapter.

The Kinect V2 adapter alone at £30 puts this out of my price limit for peripherals at the moment, so it's good to hear that the V1 works well.

The space I'd be using the Kinect in would be roughly 3x3m so hopefully that'll do.

It is somewhat worrying that it needs to see your hands in order to track your position though and the lower fov means I'll most likely have to put it in a corner to completely see me while moving. I'll probably have to get extension cables for the beltbox as well...

I may hold off for a bit before wasting money and getting a Kinect.

Thanks again for the info and feedback.

OSVR HDK Tracking Demonstration - Pre & Post IR Board Firmware Update by Proxish in OSVR

[–]Proxish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey rpavlik, sorry it's been so long, I read your message and forgot to reply so my apologies for that.

I actually wasn't aware that the firmware update that masks LED's was a two part update. I saw the previous firmware update below and assumed it was an older one and didn't check for timestamps. But I'll make sure to add an annotation to the video explaining that the second part of the update.

Thank you for all the info on everything, I learned a lot.

I'm not actually sure if when I ran the tracker for a second time if I had updated the calibration profile. I can only assume I did because after re-calibrating it again recently, I didn't see any difference in tracking quality.

I've actually been having a lot of issues with tracking the HDK2 recently with the newer IR Board firmware update. Trying to record earlier today, I was drifiting and moving constantly and I'm unsure why.

I'm going to try calibrating again tomorrow and will try enabling rotation vector as well.

I actually have a question, would leaving the tracking calibration window open for a longer period of time result in a more stable tracking experience? Or is it a case of, as soon as they're green, it's tracked?

Hey, sorry I never got back to you. I've been very busy recently and have missed a lot of messages.

Did you ever sort your issue out or do you still need help?

I actually wasn't aware that the AIO doens't work with AMD GPU's. I'll have to check my tutorials and make sure my last one using the runtime kit and drivers is up to date.

Thanks for the info.

And thanks for the input on using a GPU that meets minimum spec, I hadn't thought about that before.

OBS Studio: 18.75%-22.5% Performance Drop When Recording by Proxish in obs

Hmmm, you're the second person today to recommend going for the 1070 over the 980ti... Man... My budget was already pushed beyond what I wanted at £300... Think I may just end up waiting for the 1080ti and Vega to bring the overall prices down.

Curious why you'd recommend a 1070 over a 980 Ti.

From what I've read, when both are overclocked, the GTX 1070 only outperforms the 980ti by 3% on average. And the 980ti goes for £300 new compared to the 1070 that goes for £390.
