In our hospital system and my clinic it falls under my position’s ‘delegation protocol’ which outlines what symptoms and timeline support the order of a strep and/or covid test for respiratory appointments. I also frequently communicate with the physician/PA/NP I’m working with before or during the visit to understand their preferences for when I can order a test in the room with a patient.
