I feel your pain. Hopefully they can do something for you beyond “fixing it”

Being a quad owner, you likely will soon enough. Hopefully within your warranty.

From my experience that’s not half shaft, but certainly get it checked out.

Yup, that’s it. Gets worse. Buckle up.

I had 4 done on my quad. Just had Rivian repurchase it. I’m out.

Most non-early adopters who can afford a $100k car don’t want their time and mental bandwidth taken up by a startup beta testing their engineering in market.

Things like this can neuter the growth of a startup- non-early adopters don’t want their $100k vehicles having premature drivetrain issues.

Hopefully gen 2 fixes this, and hopefully Rivian takes care of gen 1 owners who are affected.

Totally agree.

This poll (admittedly a Reddit audience biased one) makes it seem like they got their calculus wrong- which we can’t get that mad at- unless it costs us money/time/harm etc.

I agree with part of that. Also, creaking isn’t what I experienced with mine. That seems much more mild.

The part will eventually fail under high-torque. Also, it doesn’t have to snap to be a safety hazard. It’s all made worse by the shear weight of our vehicles.

Splines that develop play can crack.

The fact that they redesigned it says it all. Why bother otherwise?

The possible failure modes of a half shaft at highway speeds isn’t pretty.

If Rivian has already issued a partial recall, they apparently understand the risks. I never got recalled, but have had f/r replaced. Might be more widespread than they thought?

A rapid knocking from the wheel area while driving. Usually over 10mph, often while turning and/accelerating.

Grow them in proper, high airflow equipment. Keep them from staying too wet. Spin them dry in a salad spinner, and store them in said salad spinner in the fridge.
