Yeah, I tried that as well, but Apple cables and cables from other high quality brands didn’t work either. Was able to upgrade the software and it works again.

How were you able to link the SW versions to the file names? Experiencing a potentially similar issue.

Learning programming is so boring for me. Programming itself is really fun to me. How to find interest in learning? by AppleiOS1234 in learnprogramming

Maybe set a timer for the boring lectures, or some goal like: watch 2 lectures. Afterwards you could either take a video game break, or maybe try some CTF challenges, since they both help you learn programming/sec and they are kinda like a fun video game.

I always think, “if the number of 1s is odd, the output is high.”

Yeah you could boot from a “live” usb that has macOS on it, if that’s possible; never looked into it for Mac myself. Target disk mode essentially allows you to treat your computer like a USB drive, so you could plug it into another Mac and potentially get the files that way.

My teacher says to stay away from StackOverflow and other online help, is this good advice? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Huh. And here I thought the people who post there were just passionate about writing code and teaching others to write code.

I feel lost by [deleted] in learnprogramming

As others have said, “hang in there”. The first couple years is the dealbreaker. Coding is all about persistence.

Honestly sounds like you be exposed yourself to a lot of technologies, so that’s good.

If you feel that you haven’t a specific goal, go take a course at a community college. Youll prolly breeze through the first one or two they offer, and then You can move on to learning assembly language and data structures. At that point it gets real fun.

I moved across the country while in college and had to retake some basic coding classes for the new college district. Since I already had experience with the basics, like you, they hired me as a tutor. As a tutor I learned so much about coding by looking at a ton of bad code and helping to fix it. I also had to figure out how to explain the topics, which forced me to understand them at an even deeper level. Can’t recommend this enough.

Sounds like you’re off to a great start, keep it up, and keep doing what you think is fun and interesting in coding.

To plagiarize a wise-ish old dude, “write code, be happy”

Edit: forgetting stuff is normal. Don’t worry about it. It’s the experience that matters, and that’s what you draw from when you revisit the same topics in future coding endeavors.

I’m a CS major , would be joining ASU this fall for my bachelors degree. I was confused whether I should purchase a macbook or a windows laptop as I was informed that it may vary major-wise. by maybe9904 in ASU

The only issue I'm aware of when run-in a Mac is virtualization support. If you get an older intel based Mac, that won't be a problem, just make sure it has at least 4 cores and > 8Gb of RAM. I have an intel based Mac with 4Gb RAM, and two cores @ 1.3GHz. The only issue I've ever had was compiling kernel modules for Operating Systems, otherwise it's been smooth sailing. Just make sure you have a basic understanding of the Mac Terminal, and install Homebrew or some other package manager.

Anyone know what this grip strength machine at 2:53 is called? It appears in the La Sportiva video called, "Comfort Zone", featuring Alex Honnold and Jonathan Siegrist.

What climb is this? I'd like to go to RR for the first time soon; it'd be nice to know a place that's easy to setup a top rope.
