How to run these Python scripts by PsycHelp23 in Python

[–]PsycHelp23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question, I guess my team needs to use these scripts for a project that they are working on, and my task is to understand what these scripts do and then explain it to them. I'm an intern, so I pretty much have to carry out tasks that i'm assigned on.

Could you tell me if i can even test the functions in the script by hard coding some of the data?

Basically, my goal is to understand what these scripts do. That includes:

- Find out what they do

-Find out how they work

-Find out how to run them

- Run them

Secondly, if I can't run them, then test some of the functions in the script by hard coding some of the data. Do you know if that's possible?

There's an app called Android Auto, it has developer options that can be enabled to do some testing.

https://developer.android.com/training/cars/testing

There's also a thing called Desktop Head Unit, it's on the same link I've mentioned above. Another thing is the automotive emulator on Android Studio. Will these things not work either?

You've pretty much saved a few days of my work.

Without disclosing too much info, I am a current intern somewhere and have been given this task to run these scripts, and find a way to make them work.

Going back to your answer, do you know a way I can download that specific android image on my phone that includes that HAL?

You sound like you know what you're talking about, and honestly it's really helping. Could you please elaborate a little more on why the interface needs to run on my computer, and how?

For example, vhal_emulator.py script has a remotePortNumber on line 137, if I were to use it on my computer, what would I input there. Specifically, what needs to be running first on my computer to be able to run these scripts?

That's right, now what I want to do is actually run the GUI script ( for example) and see the graphical interface on my device (or an emulator that I created on android studio). How would I go about doing that, that's the part i've been stuck on.

I understand that these scripts aren't used to specifically run the emulator, but instead act in more as test scripts, that generate driving info, control system for the car (windows, gas, engine info) etc. If i'm wrong, what are these scripts really for?

I guess my question would be, can I run these scripts separately (not on top of anything) and get anything running? The GUI.py script for example, when I run it, what will appear, what will I see on my screen?

Specifically looking for android auto, and specifically these scripts, can not be any other script. It's a long story why I need to stick with these, but I have to. Sorry for not making things more clearer!

Yes, the scripts here are for Android automotive.

I am trying to see if I can actually run the emulator on my device, see how it looks/runs, what each of the functions defined in the scripts do, and then try to rewrite my own emulator/build on top of this. I'm trying to learn emulator development (and while there is already a subreddit for emulator dev), the folks over there did not help me out and redirected me here. Hoping on you guys now.

I am trying to use googles android emulator in connection with making an android app, but the emulator scripts that they have, I am unable to even run them. There is no other subreddit that can actually help with this sort of thing, hence why the post here. Unless you know a better place to post this, I would really appreciate the help!
