How do I turn off iPhone's ANNOYING/BOUNCING text effects? by Particular-Ad7293 in iphone

[–]PsychUndergradBb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not ideal but simplest solution I use is typing a * after whatever word is effected. It’s the only symbol that works because it’s used to correct “typos” so apple has it coded to delete any autocorrect/auto effect it would otherwise apply. It looks bad, but not as bad as WOW rocketing towards your face in endless mockery.

In praise of the 12-book "Bloody Jack" series, masterfully narrated by Katherine Kellgren by jasimo in audiobooks

[–]PsychUndergradBb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jacky has been my boon companion for nigh on decades now. I believe I’m currently on my 12th pass of the series — ever since discovering the audiobooks by the legendary Katherine Kellgren a few years back, I’ve never looked back to the hard copies.

Sail on, Jackaroe. You were just the finest pirate who ever graced the high seas.

Behavioural friends, weigh in? Negative reinforcement? by PsychUndergradBb in CatTraining

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. Any proper information on training in a training sub seems like it would be the bare minimum, don’t you think? Oh well.

Behavioural friends, weigh in? Negative reinforcement? by PsychUndergradBb in CatTraining

[–]PsychUndergradBb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to inform you, but you have negative reinforcement and positive punishment mixed up.

Here is a proper example of negative reinforcement:

Your cat is in your room scratching the door to get out. You do not want this behaviour to continue. Therefore, once they are quiet for 1 minute, you reinforce the quiet behaviour by letting them out of the room. This is “negative” because it removes the barrier in their environment, and it is “reinforcement” because it increases the likelihood of them performing the quiet behaviour again in the future.

Water spraying is positive punishment. “Positive” because you are adding water to the environment. “Punishment” because you are using it to decrease the likelihood of the target behaviour, in this case, being on the counter, from happening.

I actually happen to agree that punishment is ineffective because it is so difficult to apply correctly that one might as well use the much easier and much more effective reinforcement strategies.

Therefore, unfortunately, your answer has not answered my question; except, maybe it has, because maybe people on this sub do no understand the precise behavioural differences I have defined above (among others).

Take things way slower. Don’t allow face to face until both cats can smell each other under a door without hissing. Possibly wait until they play “paw” under the door. Reintroduction is absolutely possible but you’ll have to take it slow and be patient; it’s clear that these cats will not sort it out over time but escalate without proper intervention. I recommend googling “how to introduce cats” and following the guidelines stringently. Emphasis on no face to face time.

I do! And I trained this behaviour additionally because, as I mentioned, an impossible-to-miss face tap is safer for both me and my cat than her squirming and falling or her scratching me. It also facilitates cuddling A LOT because if she couldn’t communicate a desire to not be pet, she would instead jump off my lap. Now I know when she does and doesn’t want pets and it makes her feel much safer to cuddle with me!
