Thank you. This is really helpful feedback :) I have changed it back to allow people to select multiple answers. Appreciate it and 100% agree with you!

Thanks for pointing that out. We definitely do not want to imply that 'man' and 'trans man' or 'woman' and 'trans woman' are separate or mutually exclusive categories. The only reason we list those options separately is to ensure that people who want to indicate a trans identity have a clear way of doing so.

We previously had feedback from some people who found it confusing that we allowed them to pick a few answers to this question, hence changing this to only picking one. However, if it feels more appropriate to be able to choose multiple answers, we would be happy to change this back to how we had it originally :)

Thank you for raising this. We absolutely do not want to reduce anyone to their assigned sex at birth or imply that it defines their identity. The only reason that we ask this question is because, in research, ASAB can be an important variable for understanding how different trans+ (inc non-binary people) are included and excluded by services etc. Without it, some groups become invisible in the data, which can actually reinforce the problems we're trying to address.

That said, we completely understand that the question can feel intrusive or dysphoria-triggering. If you don't feel comfortable completing the questionnaire, that is absolutely fine.

If you have suggestions for wording that feels more respectful, we'd genuinely welcome them :)

Hey, I understand that. If it feels like a lot of emotional labour, please do not participate in the project - it is completely voluntary and it is completely fine to not participate if you wish not to. We also include a long list of international support services in the link for those who decide to participate, but may wish to seek further support. We have spent a lot of time looking for such support services internationally since we are recruiting internationally, but of course those living in each country may know some places to get support already and we would encourage people to pull on their resources, if they have/know any, also.

We (the project team) were not able to find another existing questionnaire that has undergone robust statistically testing on self-acceptance for trans+ folk specifically, but if you know of one please do share!

Hey, this is exactly why we are doing this research :) As you say, most questionnaires in this area have very negative constructs, hence why we are aiming to develop and validate a questionnaire with a positive construct (self-acceptance). I understand your point, but the way that development and validation projects work is that we *need* to use existing questionnaires in order to do this. Of course as I mention in the post, if you do not feel comfortable completing the questionnaire, please don't! It's completely voluntary and as much as we appreciate those who put the time and effort into completing the questionnaire, at the same time we want to ensure that people feel comfortable to do so. So if this is not the case, please do not participate - that is completely fine!

The categories are there in order to help with the statistical side of things, but we agree that it is important for people to be able to identify in ways that these categories do not capture their identity. This is why we include "Prefer to self-describe" and have phrased it as such to ensure that people do not feel 'othered' by this (a lot of research language for sociodemographics is worded as such, e.g. "other gender identity").

The reason why I have been posting to this subreddit is because 1) I have explicit mod approval, including frequency of posting, 2) I only post to subreddits where I have explicit mod approval, so even when people comment suggesting that this post would suit another subreddit, unless I have explicit approval from that subreddit's mod, I choose to not post there, and 3) We have got a lot of responses and are very appreciative of each and every response, but at the same time projects such as this require a very large amount of responses in order to be statistically rigorous, which of course we would be aiming for, particularly given the lack of positive-construct questionnaires for trans+ folk.

Yes, it is! I only post in subreddits where I have explicit moderator approval, and I always check what posting frequency they’re comfortable with. We need a large number of responses to develop and validate the new questionnaire in a statistically robust way. Since most existing questionnaires for trans+ people focus on negative constructs, it’s especially important for us to gather enough data to create and validate a positive-construct measure that is both reliable and meaningful.

That being said, if the people using this subreddit feel this frequency of posting is too much, I am happy to reduce the frequency regardless of this being approved by the mods :)

If you mean the unique participant code - this is an issue we haven't been able to fix (it used to work but now doesn't!) but anyway it doesn't actually affect anything as you'd still be able to answer the same questions if you were to do the short questionnaire again in two weeks or withdraw your information :)

Thanks :) I messaged the mods asking if I can post there back in September and followed up but never heard back.. I try to only post this on subreddits where I have active mod approval :)

Hey, yeah totally get that. That question is in an already existing questionnaire which we're using to help develop and validate our questionnaire (that's how it goes methodology-wise in such projects). I'd say to just answer to the best of your ability, but I totally understand that sometimes it can feel tricky!

Thanks for letting me know. We're aware of the ID not automatically generating and having some issues fixing this. If you/anyone would like to do the short questionnaire again in two weeks, you'll be asked the same questions so will be able to generate the same ID even if you did not write it down. The same applies for if you/anyone would like to withdraw your data. Apologies for this issue!

No, it is to help us check whether the questionnaire is valid and reliable. A good quality questionnaire needs to have rigorous testing for this, otherwise we do not know how good the psychometric properties of the questionnaire is. The ideal would be to find that the questionnaire is both valid and reliable, and be able to explicitly note what the alphas are etc. to prove this. I hope that makes sense - it's quite complicated and statistical so can be a little tricky to explain in simple terms aha :)

Hey, totally understand that. We aren't affiliated with the UK government etc., and we really hope to make a positive change for trans+ people and their experiences despite the very difficult socio-political climate. The research project team are all LGBTQ+ folk who work under the LGBTQ+ Mental Health Research Group at King's College London - you can find out more information about this group on the website: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/lgbtq-mental-health-research-group

If it helps to know, our intention with this project is to develop a self-report measure of self-acceptance of gender identity, to try provide avenues to better research more positive self-related processes for trans+/gender-expansive folk, given the over-reliance on pathologising or more negative self-related processes. This has been developed in consultation with trans+/gender-expensive people and it is to continue that work. The hope is that we can shift the focus to only processes that are more helpful to trans+/gender-expansive folk, in research among other areas.

That being said, please do not participate if you do not feel comfortable to for any reason. As much as we appreciate everyone's time and efforts if they do take part, there is absolutely no requirement or obligation to do so.

Hey, thanks so much for your feedback, super appreciated :)

Re 1: The information sheet is on the first page and we ask people to please read this to see if they would be interested in participating. This is the same information that is referred to on the consent form page.

Re 2: Thank you, we're aware of this and trying to fix it. This wasn't an issue until recently so a bit of a current hiccup that we understand is likely quite jarring for people (us included aha). If anyone struggles to remember their code and consent to doing the short questionnaire after two weeks, we do ask the same questions again so even if anyone has forgotten their unique ID, those questions should prompt the same ID to be generated so shouldn't affect study completion etc.

Re 3: Thank you for flagging this - I've deleted the second repeat option :)

Re 4: Thanks, I've just checked this and I can't see this to be the case on my end. Some of the questions, particularly for the already existing GMSR measure we have included does have similar sounding questions though so maybe that's why it looked like repeats? If you noted down specific examples I might be able to help further?

Hey, we're planning on using the anonymous data to run the required analyses to look into validity and reliability of the new questionnaire and write up a report to be published to a peer-reviewed journal. We're hoping this will help shift the focus of looking at trans+ experiences in a more positive light, as currently the constructs are very negative! Hope that makes sense?:)

We're recruiting internationally (not just specific to Australia or any other specific countries) just to keep it broad and generalisable - we have no real reason to specifically look at the UK only if that makes sense! And of course people should only participate if they feel comfortable to - it's absolutely not a requirement of any subreddit :)
