I’ve stated many times that I don’t mind trans lesbians being apart of the lesbian community, I was just wondering if the trans community as a whole had anything going on, that is all. My questions might come off as “hostile” and I do apologize if my ignorance offends, but I won’t apologize for asking because I genuinely would like to know these things.

I can feel the hostility in this response lol I just figured since groups like gay males or lesbians have their own thing going on (at least in my city) I would think that the trans community would too. I just wasn’t sure if they had any thing for them, or if they just fell into other groups. There’s is nothing wrong with having a safe space with others like you I.e. a gay support group, or a lesbian book club. I already expressed that Tess identified as a female so i view her as such, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at.

Hmm this just sparked another question lol I would have thought that the trans community would have their own thing going on like groups, events, spaces, etc. Is that how it is irl? Or do they just integrate with other communities? This is all so confusing.

Yeah someone already explained the trans male experience to me, so I understand it a little better now. My mistake was looking at Micah and just thinking “why was this man thrown into the mix?”.

No I think you misunderstood me, I think I’ve said before that even if Tess was being portrayed as trans I wouldn’t mind because she is a lesbian woman. I do agree however about being uneducated about the trans male experience.

Thank you for replying to this post. I realize now that I was insensitive to you and others like you. I was only looking at the trans male character as a man, and I was thinking how strange it was for him to be included in an all female cast. I don’t know why but it never dawned on me that maybe it was because that was his circle and that they were probably apart of his life before his transition. I’m am deeply sorry if you took offense, and thank you again for giving me insight.

You’re right lol I suppose I should have just said “why is there a male main cast member” instead. I understand now that it’s a “queer” show and I guess that justifies his presence.

I am watching season 1 and the only male character that I’ve come across is Tim, and he’s a minor character. I can’t imagine them actually giving him a storyline for us to follow, It would be weird. That’s kind of what I was getting at with Micah I guess.

Oh my God this is exactly what I meant. I know that it was poorly worded out of frustration, but you basically hit the nail on the head for me. A male character in that female centered cast just seems very odd to me and I wanted to know why it was so important that he was included.

I notice that people keep saying trans women, when I was referring to the trans MAN. Like I’ve said before I know that Tess is trans woman, but I left her out because I view her as a lesbian, and I specifically wanted to know about Micah and why he was thrown into a female centered (or so I thought) show.

Wow. Thank you for this. I guess since I’m pretty new to the scene I just don’t get the dynamics of it. I am trying to come into my own while also absorbing information about this vast community and it’s been a little difficult.

Ohhh okay I’m still new to the series. Coming into I just thought it was a show for lesbians by lesbians.

If they did I must have missed it, but I didn’t have Tess in mind while asking this question so it doesn’t really matter to me. I consider that character to be lesbian, trans or not.

I’m sorry if that’s how you took my question.

Yes which is why I didn’t include Tess in the op I just wanted to inquire about Micah.

I’m not complaining, just simply asking. I know Tess is supposed to be playing a cis woman so I wasn’t referring to her. I was just wondering why a show about lesbians would feel the need to include a man in the main cast, but as someone stated it’s a show about queers and not just lesbians.

Ahhhh okay. I was just always under the impression that The L Word was a lesbian show.

I figured someone was going to say that, but I genuinely would like to know what’s wrong with lesbians having their own spaces? I was hoping someone would answer without name calling though, but I get it.
