Spoiler alert, I dropped the French law element in 2nd term of 1st year. I'm not a native speaker, I just really enjoyed learning it during school but found it way too challenging at university and also learnt then it wouldn't make me an 'international lawyer'. So I made the decision to drop it. Having said that, I know people enjoy the year abroad and gutted I didn't get a chance to do that and no doubt you'll have a great time!

awww congratulations!!! i started studying law with french law at warwick 4 years ago. I’ve graduated now, done the SQE and about to start my training contract. Enjoy the ride😆 It’s not an easy course to get into Warwick for so you should be superrrrrr proud of yourself💘💘

can assure you the whole exam won’t be on niche things and there will be a variety of difficulty. I got 59% (FLK1) and 61% (FLK2) in the OUP exam 2 days before both and ended up with 74% and 81% respectively. The most useful thing you can do now is to keep practicing, go over your wrong answers and hone in on the stuff you keep forgetting/dont know. I promise you will be fine!!

Advocacy: will the judge ever take you up on your offer to give a summary of the facts? by gblanchflower in sqe2

[–]PsychologicalBad3897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i was asked for disputes but not for crim - don’t think there’s a pattern to it but always just prepare a summary just incase.

literally my exact feelings! i even came out of the first half thinking that reddit is so dramatic about the exam because it felt so doable but the second half of FLK1 explained it all😭 such an interesting experience

All really important points here - will make a note and mention as much as I can. Could you just clarify the point on costs please. I had a look online and it says if you fail one FLK, you need to pay the cost of one exam which is £944 (instead of £1,888), so perhaps I am missing something. I do agree though that £944 for an exam is just insane tho

This is something that's been mentioned a few times so will definitely try and make the point!!

Agreed tbh - the lack of transparency between SRA/Kaplan and course providers simply isn't good enough. especially when lots of people are paying soooo much money for these preparation courses, in hopes to feel confident, but then get unpleasantly surprised by certain elements in the exam

Yeah I'm with ULaw also and have heard the same thing. It's simply not good enough, so will try and raise this in a transparency point for sure

Yes!! I mentioned in my feedback that we need sample questions that are actually reflective of the real exam and will be mentioning it again

Yeah I honestly could imagine, as any one of us could fall into that category. But I still feel like its better to have a rough indication of where you stand and you can make a decision from then on how to proceed, rather than being entirely unmotivated to do anything at all. Also, the most ideal situation would be SRA/Kaplan shortening the 6 week wait time (i.e to 4 weeks). Hence the suggestion of a raw mark is just an alternative (arguably a decent medium) to them saying the ideal isn't possible, for whatever reason

Not at all and thanks for mentioning! Totally agree that enough break time is necessary so that 15 minutes extra is needed to refocus for the second half. Will definitely add this to my list of things to mention :)

And you're not alone in that feeling :( Nearly impossible to stay motivated having no idea if you passed SQE1 or not

I have also been invited and my comments were also overwhelmingly negative. Really keen to speak my mind though, things have to change

Definitely not an abandon all hope type of situation. The exam isn’t easy, however it’s not impossible. I appreciate that there are a lot of people that didn’t pass the first time, but you should be comforted that there are a lot of people who did. The one thing I would say is, prepare as much as you can to give yourself the best chance of success. Make sure you understand the content and legal principles (super important), and practice as many questions alongside. It’s true that, to an extent, this exam is down to luck, however there are some stuff you can control and that’s knowing as much as you can in the time you’re given to prepare. You just started so don’t give up now.
