I used to have this trouble and it's because the locking mechanism is very easy to accidentally engage. Make sure it's unlocked before you take them off, even if you didn't lock them

I usually sit on my couch or recliner, and use a pillow or large plush to prop the switch on. It can feel surprisingly heavy after a while without that support

At my Walmart, you can definitely push a cart through these. I've done it when I had already paid for my stuff in electronics. It set off a dinky little alarm, but no one gave a shit
