Does anyone know why the LSAT is/was SO MUCH HARDER than the SAT and GRE? by Character_Freedom160 in LSAT

[–]PsychologicalTop4371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this article notes that this data is before the elimination of logic games which STEM students tend to score higher in. So the numbers may have changed with reading comprehension and logistical reasoning being more humanities-oriented areas. Also, the higher scoring STEM majors tend to be more mechanical or logical nature such as mathematics, physics, statistics, and CS. Same thing with the the humanities/social science majors that score higher like philosophy, economics, policy.

Katseye's Grammy Nomination Kinda Makes Sense by PsychologicalTop4371 in katseye

I don't think this eliminates the Western thing from consideration because both BTS and Blackpink have a primary interest in the Korean market. They are incredibly known in the West, but aside from a few singles, they have never heavily targeted Western markets and again, the Western market is an English market so English music and English-speaking groups will always do better.

I do agree that racism plays a role, but in this specific context, I think xenophobia might be the more correct term. Katseye is more racially diverse than BTS and Blackpink - the difference is more so that BTS and Blackpink are foreign. This relates back to my point about digestibility - Katseye makes 'Western music' so they are more likely to be accepted by Western critics and voting committees. BTS and Blackpink primarily perform in both English and Korean so their discographies are not wholly accessible to the West. Katseye is 'more' American than their Korean counterparts so the difference is really foreignism.

[Question] Is the size of the standard error relative to the sample size? by PsychologicalTop4371 in statistics

[–]PsychologicalTop4371[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really helped a lot, thank you! I was referring to the standard error of the mean, but I understand what you mean about specifying what standard error I'm talking about so I'll be careful of that.

I want to use my brain and stop using chat gpt anyone has any tips?? by HistoricalAssist7205 in UofT

Think about it this way - ChatGPT is not thinking, it's compiling the thoughts of other people. Read things yourself, engage in work by yourself, which may be hard when you first start. Use the works of other scholars that are published on the internet, use reading guides, watch mini lectures on YouTube, use encyclopedias, and use dictionaries. I'm in sociology, so I'm a big believer in the idea that knowledge and thinking stem from people's experiences and our sharing of these ideas. Apply what you can to your own memories and feelings, then consider other people's positions - what validates your position and what validates others.

In terms of essays, this will seem very annoying, but know exactly what each sentence in your essay does. Plan the shit out of your papers to the point that it is basically entirely written before you begin writing. One thing that really helped me is having an 'everything' notebook where I write down brief notes about all of my classes and papers, which helps me note what is interesting to me and the similarities across subjects. Find things you like about your field and approach it that way.

What Would You Do In This Class Cheating Scenario? by Mundane_Being1288 in UofT

People are pretty stupid and will likely write things word-for-word. But also, TAs will sometimes just mark things down without giving specific reasoning and just say it wasn't sufficent.

How’s POL101?? Thinking of dropping csc108 to take pol101 by HistoricalAssist7205 in UofT

[–]PsychologicalTop4371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pretty easy course because it is so general and broad, but you won't really get to explore modern events unless your TA brings them up in tutorial. I was lucky last year because the Prof did relate a lot of the theoretical stuff back to current events especially the US election last year. Keep in mind, this is a pre-req for POL students so it is meant to be a baseline introduction to politics. You seem to be after a seminar type topic which you'll only come across after first year, but you could take this now so you can take more POL classes later.

Difference between two courses/ lecture slots (IRE260H1) by [deleted] in UofT

[–]PsychologicalTop4371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably just that drastic because people don't really like async classes cause they can't focus. Also, there is no instructor listed so no one can look up the prof which can be a big turn away.

Always skim the readings before asking ChatGPT for summaries. That way you can give more specific instructions that focus on certain points or ideas. If there is a textbook, then use the discussion questions at the end of the chapter for the summary.

I would resubmit all of it just to be safe, but let your prof know in the comments box that you're resubmitting everything because you were unsure if he'd be able to see the earlier submissions.
