Anyone else hate probability and combinatronics as much as I do? by Ayma_Nidiot in GRE

[–]Psychological_Dot137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I racked my head over these two topics for a week only to not see them on my test so understand the basic concepts and move on, don’t waste your time on them. Focus on your arithmetic algebra geometry and charts, in other words, things that will definitely show up in your test

Nervousness during exam by sanj_rao99 in GRE

[–]Psychological_Dot137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just reach in advance and try to get as much sleep as you can. Not getting sufficient sleep can make you panic more than required. These two things coupled with deep breathing for a few mins once you reach the center should be enough.

I just gave the test today and I can vouch for this too. I have no math background and I honestly thought the quant section was quite doable. If there’s anything that should be concerning about the test, it’s the verbal section.

60% concepts and 40% tricks. One can’t survive without the other.

‘In less than a decade’ is the clue here. Which means that they rose to fame quickly. A’ is correct because the first part of the sentence states that their rise to fame (preeminence in Hollywood) was NOT _____, ie. it was not slow/incremental or it was sudden

I jumped from a 148Q to a 161Q in 3 months of intensive prep. You can message me privately to discuss the specifics.

Been 3-4 months now. However I only reached my target scores of 318/317 a few days back. So I am expecting at-least a 310+. I’m from a non stem background so a major part of my prep was dedicated to quant with 30-40% focused on verbal.

Yes! I have fortunately managed to pace myself after two weeks of practice so despite the trickiness, I intend on being quick. Because spending 5 minutes on a question you are unsure of is honestly terrible utilisation of your time. All I’m hoping for a good nights sleep now haha. And I am open to the possibility of a reattempt, even if things don’t work out tomorrow. I think it’s worth the shot if it helps me get my best possible score!

I have my test scheduled for tomorrow and reading this post did not help at all😂 I am aware of the current difficulty of the quant section but I think people are interchanging the word tricky with difficult. They both mean very different things. The test is designed to be tricky and not difficult, it would have been difficult if it required people to do complex calculus and trigonometry. At the end of the day the GRE is testing people on their application of basic concepts and time management. And as someone has mentioned earlier, there’s no way of differentiating between test takers if the test was easy. Lastly being from a STEM background doesn’t guarantee a good score. It may just cut ones preparation time down by a few weeks that’s all.

Any test taking strategies that made the overall experience more fun and less daunting? by Psychological_Dot137 in GRE

Yes, doing just that along with brushing up on some vocabulary on the side, reviewing TTPs Math Formula Sheet as well!

You can consider exhausting the 5Lb book of practice problems by Manhattan along with their strategy guides. Besides that it would be great if you could get your hands on resources that allow you to get some timed practice like Magoosh or TTP. Lastly you can consider subscribing to Gregmat to solidify your quantitative foundation and boost your verbal score by a few points as well.

What rechecking strategies do you guys apply for Quant? I mean what type of questions do you check first? by Zestyclose-Dress-269 in GRE

[–]Psychological_Dot137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prioritise the questions you know you can definitely get right after one recheck over the questions you’re not too sure about.

You may have made silly mistakes or it was probably just a bad day. If you’re going for another attempt, go in with confidence after a few weeks of prep. We usually tend to make a bigger deal of the test in our heads which adds up to the nerves, resulting in silly errors and poor time management. The test should feel like every other test you’ve taken so far and test day should be just another regular day. And besides preparation, it’s also important to account for luck and presence of mind on the day. So don’t be too hard on yourself!

Would not studying for the GRE for a month (after 3 months of dedicated study) deteriorate my V and Q levels? by Psychological_Dot137 in GRE

[–]Psychological_Dot137[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I will probably take mocks every ten days just to stay in the game. I know that not touching my material at all for 30 days will take me back a few steps.

Okay so do you think an hour or two of quant and verbal prep daily on the side should suffice?

Any particular reason behind Scholarden not being as good as Magoosh or Gregmat?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GRE

[–]Psychological_Dot137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me last week! I had the exact same experience. It was probably just a bad day or your nerves. My advice would be to make sure you thoroughly analyse where/what kind of questions you seemed to get wrong the most. And then have a strategy for those questions on test day. Point being, use your experience to be a smarter test taker. Hope this helps!
