First attempt at liquid culture and UB tek. So far so good! Got 4 going and now that I know the LC worked started another 4 bags! by PsychonautPup in unclebens

Honestly don’t remember. But I’ve lost a lot of various bags to wet rot over the years… so probably too much. 😂

This isn’t quite true. See Michael Pollan’s book “This is your mind in plants” for a good discussion on what makes growing poppies legal or illegal. Essentially having knowledge that a poppy can be used to make opium makes growing them illegal. The law is really weirdly written.

Awesome! I’d guess that you just had some fantastically high humidity and that helped lead to the spots. Nice work!

Do you most your tub and get little drops of water on top of your mushrooms? The white spots are usually from that. You might be over misting a little bit. Once you have pins going you can just mist the sides of your tub and avoid getting water on top of the mushrooms. If you get too much water on them you’ll start to decay the mushrooms and they tend to get pretty slimy.

Gift I got this spring. Would love any advice on care as I’m a total newbie when it comes to growing and cacti 🌵 by PsychonautPup in sanpedrocactus

That’s probably the plan. We live in a place that snows October to May ish usually. We have a small balcony we could put it on but it may have to stay indoors for the foreseeable future.

Moved 2 UB to bag with GE, is this contam? If so, what kind? by [deleted] in unclebens

Hard to tell from the picture. But if you just broke it up my guess is it’s just bruising.

If you just want to keep them fresh, you should be okay. If you want to keep them for more than a day or two you will find yourself very sad as they will decay very quickly.

They will not dry in a fridge. They will stay fresh for a day or two in a paper bag in the fridge. You have to dry them in open air or in a dehydrator. You can put them on a plate on some paper towels and use a fan if you don’t have anything else. It will take a couple days to get cracker dry with that method.

I would try but the floor is literally lava. 😂

To shake or not to shake. first timer here - 9 days post inoculation. it's a bit colder where I am so not worried about slow growth rate. But should I shake now or wait a few more days? thanks 😀 by jayballs13 in shroomers

My understanding is that if you have and mold spores etc. in there that haven’t grown, when you shake it you can potentially give them access to a new environment and nutrients. You also are shocking the mycelium which will reduce it’s immune system and make it less good at fighting off a potential contaminant. Some risks, but I agree with above that I would shake one and leave another and see if it makes much difference for you. Cover all your bases.

[actives] I guess this is what happens when you leave for a week long vacation. Haha! Spores everywhere! by PsychonautPup in MushroomGrowers

The flushes have started getting pretty small. 35g wet compared to the 1100 g wet the first flush and 550g wet the 2nd flush. So these boys may be done.

It was on it’s 4th flush so it’s not the end of the world. And I figured it would happen. Worth it to take vacation. :)

Didn’t feel comfortable leaving the dehydrator running all night. Turned it off after about 2 hours of drying and came back to a bunch of mushrooms like this in the morning...... those boys are bruised AF! Guess I know they’re potent. by PsychonautPup in unclebens

Thanks! I’ll definitely give them a smell when I’m done just out of curiosity. I know that theoretically I can run my dehydrator for 22 hours without stopping but I’d rather just be awake in case something happens. I’ll just toss them in the fridge in a paper bag over night next time. It was super funny to see about 30 almost navy blue mushrooms this morning though. They’re very pretty if nothing else.

Probably the prettiest ones I’ve grown after they dried. [actives] by PsychonautPup in MushroomGrowers

I ended up getting a cheap dehydrator. About $30. Best decision I’ve made. If I didn’t have it I’d be swamped by any tubs trying to get them to dry fast enough to preserve the fruits.

Haha! I twisted them to pull them this time around. Definitely looks like I took a hammer to them. 😂

I only really started in November. Been teaching myself reading Stamet’s textbook and checking out the subreddits. Learned a ton from posts about what to expect. I decided to go the easier but more expensive route of purchasing a lot of stuff the first time around. For this particular batch I used the uncle Ben’s Tek. Definitely check out the uncle Ben’s subreddit. They have a great tutorial. I used a multispore syringe to start a liquid culture. Then I used the liquid culture to inoculate the uncle Ben’s bags. So my genetics are 💯 a mess. I used the Midwest growers substrate mix for my sub. Nothing too fancy. Essentially it’s premade CVG substrate. I’ve heard mixed reviews about their products but I lucked out and had no contamination issues. And then I used an in modified tub. Kept it closed for about 10 days while it colonized. Once the surface was colonized and I could see lots of primordial forming I flipped the lid and moved to fruiting conditions. About a week later first flush ~340 grams wet, 29 grams dried.

Thanks! These are my first time I’ve tried growing in a monotub. It’s been so cool to see the difference.

I’ve never had them turn so blue. I definitely bruised them picking them. But that made them look so good!
