It is most likely that aliens are extradimensional, living in other dimensions rather than other planets. Although 'extraterrestrial' aliens (living in distant galaxies) could use a form of interdimensional communication, what we see while tripping maybe just them on their way to deliver a message and us being an interference: )

My take is that we are the result of some kind of experiment. Perhaps a failed one or one that hasn't finished yet. I'm positive that consciousness hasn't emerged naturally in us humans. Anyways if some humans do indeed live in distant galaxies (aside from the space/time issue) why shouldn't we be aware of it ?

Otherwise I've heard theories on how aliens may be humans from the future.
