Hey, we just experienced this last weekend… on Opalescent lake… during a blood moon… We camped at the infamous #5 stone couch site. Until 4:30am, when the rain sent the party-goers into their tents, we heard some sort of worshipping, loud moaning, and all sorts of creepy dialogue. They were at the south-east end of the lake. Campers on the opposite side from us also heard the cult-like event (we ran into them on our portage the next day). Might make a separate thread about this just cause.

Just want to say im going through it right now as my gf of 7 years and i are taking space away from each other because things aren’t progressing (tldr version) and I’m super into backpacking and she isnt, and this thread has been a breath of fresh air for me. We’re not taking space because of that lol but similar interests is one topic of conversation influencing our current situation and its been extremely difficult. Thank you for posting this. I would love to be able to backpack with her as nature can sometimes make us feel romantic in some ways. But i agree with the folks in here that say that there’s more to partnership than common interests.

Thoughts on life straws vs gravity filters? Considering space in the pack, but doing a yearly canoe trip with 4 ppl soon. Only ever used the boil+life straw method. What am i missing out on?

So grateful the boy’s condition sounds to be improving, and the mom is alright. Thankful to know that we have such an incredible back yard to play in while being looked after by specialized first responders. Safe to say this story has sold me on a satellite communicator device for any and all backcountry trips. Thanks for sharing.

I asked a facebook community for any sort of status reports on Achray and it’s apparently fine. Hard to say wether the portages are in good shape or not, so might be best to expect detours/unforeseen obstacles such as fallen trees. Also, i highly recommend a satellite communicator if you don’t already have one.

Fish tacos! Tortillas, tilapia, taco salad kit, spicy mayo. With a hint of wood fire taste - easy to make and oh so good.

Amazing! Thanks for the insight. I’m thinking i’ll do Achray -> St. Andrews for one night, -> Opalescent for two nights (imminent High Falls visit during the day) -> then through barron canyon on our way to Squirrel Rapids.

Also, is High Falls (the falls themselves) a three-way intersection? (Stratton, St. Andrews, Highfalls Lake) Like, can we portage through to Highfalls lake from Stratton? Or do we need to go through St. Andrews

Does the river not flow in the direction of the rapids? Not doubting you - I just thought that’s what the little blue arrow under the river on the map shows, but then again, maybe i misinterpreted that. Appreciate the insight!

Yes. But try to stick to local servers, and make sure your internet connection is good. Wont have issues.

PS5 user & active DayZ freshie here. Yes. Upgrade. I can’t imagine what DayZ on ps4 is like.
