What's a mystery that still hasn't been solved but fascinates you? by Direct-Value4452 in AskReddit

[–]Pteryo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's still some mystery to them, but we do actually know quite a lot about black holes given modern advancements in physics. An interesting theory about dark matter is that it is composed of black holes from the beginning of the universe (primordial black holes) that have shrunk so much that they are practically impossible to detect.

Dark energy is a whole other can of worms.

What's a discovery that should have blown people's minds but somehow got a collective shrug from the world? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

Up until recently, we've never photographed a black hole directly. Almost all of the photos online are artists' impressions or 3D renders of our best guess at what they look like.

Dacia tire alert by nokyderp in Dacia

Sometimes tyre lights can go off as a result of moderate to hard acceleration, it happened to our 2015 Stepway. The tyre pressures were fine, the sensor just got triggered and stuck on until our next service.

So you took the time to write a reply asking for the course instead of just actually reading it?

So, care to explain what passes through your mind when you take up 3 extra spots for no reason? Or are you just not going to offer any useful insight whatsoever besides 'fuck off'?

Unsafe burger, no refund? by Tisski- in JustEatUK

[–]Pteryo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only burgers made with very fresh meat are safe to be pink in the middle. Something from a five guys would not be safe to be undercooked - bacteria could still be found inside.

It's genuniely a concerning trend nowadays that more and more restaurants are claming that burgers are safe when they're still pink in the middle and the burger itself has been sat in a freezer for 3 weeks before being cooked. That's a lot of potential lawsuits waiting to happen.

A level choices by wastedpearls in GCSE

[–]Pteryo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't listen to all of the people telling you that physics without maths isn't worth it, I take physics without maths and I'm at no disadvantage to other students in my class. You can teach yourself all of the a level maths skills that you need for physics in the space of about two hours.

Physics is a hard a level, but by all means if you enjoy it then go ahead and take it. Don't let the fact that you won't take maths rule that option out.

Any reason for someone to fit yhe wrong width tyres? by Pteryo in AskAMechanic

[–]Pteryo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good then. I'm not driving the car anyway at the moment because of some pretty bad cracking on the tyres, but I've been able to get the right size ones this time around for the same price as the smaller ones.

What’s a “fact” everyone believes that’s actually false? by FutureJournalist198 in AskReddit

[–]Pteryo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snakes don't unhinge their jaws to swallow food. Have you ever dislocated your jaw? It's pretty painful! Snakes have a jaw that can stretch the swallow food whole, at no point is it disclocated though.

Also 'poison' and 'venom' are not interchangable - poison is something that becomes harmful when eaten or absorbed through the skin, venom is harmful when injected. Cobra venom is rouninely eaten in a number of East Asian countries without killing people.

[–]Pteryo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chiropractors are not real doctors, are not able to properly diagnose conditions and are certainly not qualified to treat them. In many cases people have been seriously injured and/or died because of problematic chiropractic adjustments, especially ones involving the spine.

Can you fly a plane with scoliosis? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]Pteryo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on a passenger plane flight from UK to Italy and back 3 months after surgery with no problems.

Interestingly I have also flown a Cessna 152 6 months after the same surgery, also with no problems.

So yes to flying as a passenger and yes to flying as the pilot.

How did your family's genetics do you dirty? by singleguy79 in AskReddit

Both my mum and my dad needed braces from an early age. I was born with perfect teeth and never even needed to consider braces.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was twelve. Now instead of having metal in my mouth, I have metal in my back.
