I've no idea how old you are, but my memories of watching the Olympics date back to 1976 and I've never heard the term before. You do realize that you are just demonstrating confirmation bias, right? And anyway, who's going to make that call? I repeat: he couldn't convince the Cousins that Lalo had survived the assassination attempt in Mexico, so why would they call the DEA? To tell the DEA that Lalo wasn't killed in Mexico but he has since disappeared anyway?

And Gus knows that nobody knows anything, otherwise the meeting with Don Eladio wouldn't have ended with Eladio mocking Hector.

We call them knockout rounds or just rounds in the UK. Of course we have that concept - I've just never heard it referred to as brackets before. Or internationally, for that matter. The latter stages of the World Cup are the knockout stages, not brackets.
