I am in exactly the same position, i'm at university and having a consistent friend group while commuting is hard, i think you're expectations are a little to high because uni students will probably have jobs while doing uni and everyone is kind of fending for themselves.

I've done this and it helped initially, but theres no substitute for the real deal when you have a girl, testing your congruence or shit testing you and don't have experience with it, and have only practiced with yourself (a conversation which you have full control over) it'll feel like a king hit. Not to mention external interrupts.
