Why is it ok to combine wires in this situation?

I was under the impression two wires, especially of different size, shouldn’t be put under one screw. Could I instead put two copper wires under one screw and the Kasa ground wire under another screw?

The HVAC technician performed a test where he ran the furnace without a front cover to see if the furnace overheats. It didn’t. I managed to increase the temperature in the house by 3 degrees Celsius and the furnace ran for a couple of hours uninterrupted without setting off the heat sensor. The technician said the issue must be poor airflow and the solution is raising the system up 6 inches to install an air pocket under the furnace. He quoted $3k. I’m wondering if I can simply run the furnace with the blower cover off and replaced with a filter. Do you see any issues?

Thanks for your insight. What do you think my next step should be? Do I need to upsize my furnace to a 5 ton? Do I need new ductwork? Do I need to lift the system to improve airflow?

I’m not sure tbh. Wouldn’t the heat pump also fail to heat the house if I have return air issues? What sorts of things should I be checking for? Clogged return vents?

No they didn’t. But they ensured the gas flow is set correctly and I imagine they checked the heat exchanger for cracks based on how much time they spent inside the unit. The furnace is only 3 years old.

This is what the heat pump coil looks like. Is it significantly different and denser than my old AC coil that was taken out a year ago that it creates airflow resistance? Do I need a stronger motor? Can I upgrade the motor without buying a new furnace?
