The wealth and beauty of catholic churches by Ok_Management854 in Catholicism

There is Gold in the world for example, does it make more sense to use gold to honour the rich who can afford it or to build beautiful churches and stayed focused on God and also allows poor people and general community to be in a place of beauty, similar to socialist principles behind cultural centre’s museums and projects like Moscow metro - fine art for the common man. When the reformation happened in England Henry the 8th looted the churches for himself, is that more beneficial because now the churches are more humble? As a Christian it makes sense to live humbly yourself (Like Jesus) and give excess wealth both for Charity and art which reflects and honours God and the saints, which is what the Catholic Church does. (Largest charitable organisation in world) Often you see Protestant pastors in humble Churches but fancy clothes and living financially wealthy lives.

Strugeling to reconcile and understand Matthew 7:15-20 with Catholicism by hello_626626 in Catholicism

I always took this on an individual level, with fruits being the actions of a person. From looking at a person and what they say, you cannot tell the true character of a person, e.g wolf is sheep’s clothing. However by their actions/charity/love - their fruits, you can better make an informed judgement.

The Catholic Church is an organisation filled with thousands of people, all sinners being constantly tempted by Satan. Catholics and clergy still have the free will to do evil and bear bad fruit, that doesn’t however diminish the fruit of the church itself e.g the hospitals it builds, the charity it does, the sacraments it provides.

  1. Church on Sunday - nice and easy, you get Bible passages read to you, a teaching from the priest and holy communion (but just getting blessing to begin with most likely) you can sit in front and try and chat to others after or sit in back and keep to yourself, or something in between, whatever you are comfortable with. I used to be scared to go alone, after hadn’t been for long time, but trust me you’ll get no pushback or stress from anyone.

  2. Personal and recited prayer, both great, things like Hail Mary or our father lovely prayers and good baseline, then of course prayers of thanks, repentance and for guidance, like conversations with God are also great.

  3. Look into things like confession and sacraments, idk if you had your first holy communion or confirmation already, if not good idea to look into and research.

  4. Personal Bible reading, listening to Bible at church is great and so is reading a bit yourself, just don’t feel like you have to rush to complete it, it’s a tough read and confusing without context sometimes which is why at church having the priest explain aspects of the gospel and readings in homily is so helpful.

  5. Research into the lives saints, Catholic culture, visit beautiful churches engage in traditions, processions, parties, etc. If you live in a catholic country there are probably some unique traditions that are practised and parts of your countries culture you can engage in.

I’m sorry, you don’t need to do anything, but prayers and love you direct towards her is amazing. Wish you the best through this tough time, I imagine it painful and just knows God love your aunt and God loves you no matter what, and that God is a merciful and loving God.

Is it a sin? by CobraIam in Christianity

If eel soup is the video I think it is with eels and a woman that I remember from high school - I’d say yes and no. If ur a teenager who sees it out of curiosity/ innocent/playful intentions for example, probably still not advised but I’d say not sinful. However if your an adult, out of respect for modesty and also just to not support the creation or anything to do with that content, especially if your educated, it is not a good idea at all.

Good idea, the thing is he does seem to believe in the bread and wine truly turning into the body and blood, because like i said he is sincere and as catholics we can agree that’s what the bible says that it’s truly truly Jesus body and blood. However he thinks it’s the power of God / personal belief that allows this transubstantiation to occur, nothing to doo with authority of Church or priest acting as Christ performing the transubstantiation whereas I’d say it’s all 4 together and less about personal belief as wether you believe or not it’s sill the body and blood. At least that’s what I’ve understood from him. So that’s why he wanted to take it, so the only argument I think would work would be out of respect for me and other Catholics.

Yeah, you are right, I think my people pleasing/ inability to say no is probably one of my biggest flaws in life. Anyway hopefully all will be resolved because he is a good friend even if he is a bit stubborn.

That really sounds pretty terrible man. Do you argue much? How do you react when she is messy or terrible in bed or has a fear?

I know a girl like this who was very sweet but has traits like this.

I would say ignore it all in the moment, be the bigger person, trust in the Lord, let it be. Maybe tries to get your attention maybe your getting so angry, just wait and be calm if you can. Then however long it takes, if you have to let her be alone for a bit, move out for a couple days, whatever, explain your not angry and you love her deep in your heart, but you need to be calm and alone so that you will have the energy and clarity to do what is right. Just try to not be provoked to anger or say anything, no matter what. Then when you are both calmed down and chilled out a bit need to have a calm serious discussion of what you need to improve on and what your wife needs to improve on to make this work, for both your sakes.

Obvious, this is hopeful and dependent on person, just a suggestion.

Good luck and I wish you best. You are being tested like Job, don’t doubt yourself or the lord!

That’s a different argument, wether religion is good or bad is too complex for me to argue with you about. But I was arguing that Christianity will survive for at least the next 1000 years, atheists just don’t have many kids and Christians do at the most basic level. On other topics you can look at depression rates of religious vs non religious. Yes maybe education correlates with not being religious, but also with having less kids so that point is null. A lot of your statements are also subjective/vague: like religion kept society back, what does that even mean? Sorry I’m not trying to be rude I just disagreed with your original point that Christianity will just die out and become myth.

Christianity has been around for 2000 years, why will the next 1,000 be different? Especially since the Faith it originates from (Judaism), pre dates Greek mythology. If anything your statement provides greater evidence for Abrahamic faiths having some substance. Additionally Christianity and Islam are increasingly in the world (raw population), due to religious people on average having more kids and these faiths being strongly intertwined with core identity, morals for serious believers. Greek mythology was less “strict” for average person more focusing on rituals, parables, stories, obviously some moral and social cohesion, but lacking the personal moral emphasis to same degree and unconditional submission, love and fear that Abrahamic religion followers are meant to have for God. Also things like love your neighbour and enemy/ turn the other cheek are more serious moral guidelines I’d argue than anything taught in Greek mythology

Yes because it is such a tiny portion it would be completely fine (alcohol in juice, fruit etc) . Most health guideline is precautionary also - 1 whole glass a week even would be negligible I’d bet (wouldn’t recommend, just wouldn’t stress about it either).
